Shelby protecting me, chasing Patty !

Shelby and I are very close and she's a sweetheart, but she gets down low in her stance and gives Patty the evil eye. Yesterday, Shelby and I were on the floor and trying to get her to play like a cockatoo. She looked at Patty and actually took off slowly after her. I've been telling Patty to put on my welding gloves and face shield, then handle her.

Any other ideas ?

Well, I'm not the best person to advise being single and not having had a 'Too. But, I think if she wears those gloves and mask she is going to scare Shelby, and Shelby will dislike her more.

I know you don't want to let a 'Too know it's intimidating you. So she should try to act confident.

It may help if she is the only one to give Shelby her food and favorite treats. And it may help if she interacts with Shelby while you are not home or out of sight and sound. You could maybe go work on your lovely car each evening to give them some alone time.

I think Roxy's advice is probably the best I've heard so far, I've found that it helps but once my cockatoo decided I was his, he also decided that he didn't want anyone else near me. My husband bought some falconer gloves so he could handle Amigo when I'm not here, sometimes they work, sometimes...they don't, Amigo bit right through them.

My husband has not given up trying to win Amigo over and Amigo at least tolerates him now. I'm not sure if it will ever get to the point where Patty can be totally unguarded around Shelby. Let me know if that happens, means I have hope!

My Blue Crown hated my ex fiance, but she just didn't have the cojones to actually go after him. She made bite threats all the time, but never actually bit him.

We did have him give her all her treats, but it didn't seem to help. However, he also wasn't willing to do any of my other suggestions on how to win her over, like sing for her. She loved that, but he felt stupid singing to a bird. He also wouldn't answer her if she did talk to him, so that didn't win him any points either.

Ive found that when my boyfriends bird (who hates me) stupidly flies to the floor, she is more than willing to let me pick her up. Sometimes if i pick her up, she will nip, so i put her back on the floor, that usually only takes once and she wont bite again.

Ive read the best thing to do is take the bird to a room its unfamiliar with and give it treats to build trust etc. I havent tried that yet myself, but it makes sense.

Our Amazon has bonded with my husband. Last night I inadvertently blocked her view of him and she jumped off her perch on to my shoulder, bit my shoulder (drew blood), then flew to my husband. If she is on the floor she will also come over and try to bite my feet. I just keep talking to her, feeding her treats and trying to win her confidence, at least enough to do her basic care if my husband is not home.

Yes, I forgot, the unfamiliar room or place is a great strategy. It gets them away from what they consider their territory. Try handling the bird in a room it doesn't normally go into, or outside if the bird is harnessed or clipped well enough that it can't fly, or even a stranger's house or the park.

I'll see if Patty will take her into the bedroom with treats where Shelby's never see before, and see what happens ?

I guess I could just duct tape her beak !!!
