Show Pics of Your Parrot Bites!

Birds can be very lovable but when they bite watch out ! Makes me uneasy around macaws and cockatoos . I only got bitten once but that was by Pepsi, only because his head was stuck in one of the toys but it didn't hurt. Sprite is very mouthy though, even though it doesn't break skin it pinches.

Yikes!! I dont think I would like to be bitten by a Macaw or a Cockatoo I am also very wary around these 2 species!

Ouch!! That looks painful

That bite was quite painful. I was attemting to hand my rotten bird a sunflower seed. She took the seed eagerly and then dropped it and latched on in a split second. Since that bite, she has not been handlealble. It's been 3 weeks. I am working with her as if she was brand new to our home. Even feeding her is difficult now. I have no idea what got her so jacked up, but it's more than a bad day!

We'll work through it, bit WOW for a wake up call!

Ouch! That looks painful! I'm lucky that Rosie doesn't bite me hard, it may hurt but she doesn't do any damage. She got a few of my friends pretty good but it still only hurts, only time she did a damaging bite was when she got my step dad and he jerked back and pulled her off my hand and she had to hold on.

How old is your meyers? Try to figure out if anything in his enviroment has changed, is he getting enough sleep, is he maturing and having hormones.

Boy, I bet you had some choice thoughts running through you brain during those 30 seconds...

My Meyers is about 3. I added a parakeet to my home to help keep him company. This seemed to trigger something really primal! I don't know if it's hormones or territorial behavior, but it's been pretty tough. I have changed the environment.

We were having problems before this bite. This extended bite was just the clincher. We are the birds 4th home that we know of. Not an easy one to say the least.

It took all the self-control I had to tolerate the bite!

We are unsure on gender. No eggs. S/he talks up a storm. VERY cool, full-flighted bird! We will get through this!

I have to recommend touch training, then start trick training. I'll make another video sometime of me trick training my galah as a example.

Since that bite, I have moved her into a different cage and I have moved the parakeet further away and put up a curtain so they can't see each other but can still call to one another. I have started just reading to my Meyers and target training. She is really good at following the target now and I can hand feed with utmost caution! I feed her mash and pellets in her bowls. All other food comes from my hand. I have started dowel training and can move her from place to place on the dowel. I have a hand guard on the dowel to block access to my hand.

I haven''t been able to have her out of the cage for a week. When I tried a week ago, she flew at me and landed on my back and started mauling my neck. I had to strip off my shirt to get her off of me. She then started mauling my shirt, so I just carried it to her cage and set it in there with her still on it!

I have been in touch with a lot of experts and am in the process of learning a whole lot more about bevavior modification.

My Jardine's and my parakeet think I'm great, so I don't think that I am broken beyond repair! No one else in my family will even be in the same room with her if she is not caged. She has attacked every member of my family. Sometimes she will fly to someone and perch on them and arch her neck to be scritched and hang out for half an hour happily and then BAM! She will go off. Other times, a family member will be in the room visiting and she will fly at them and start biting hard. She is very, very hard to predict. Her bites are pretty bad.

I actually took this picture because the person I was working with was telling me not to react to the bites. I took the picture so that he could see the kind of biting I was talking about. These aren't "nips." Ignoring this level of biting isn't going to be effective if it's even possible to do so.

I was reading up about cockatoos and found some cockatoo bite pics. I can't imagine what a macaw bite would look like * shiver *

Aww Wenz, sorry Cody bit you! ouch! Zora drew blood for the first time yesterday, and while I admit it did not hurt very much, I was very sad as that was the first time my little girly bit me. I knew she would bite at some point, but I'm still upset.

Pixel hasn't bitten me yet. So lucky me, no gruesome pictures!

I have scars from my old lovebird hen though. She was not to be messed with when her hormones were in full swing. Entirely my own fault; I did not do as much research as I should have back then. Oh, but I got incentive to learn quick.

I've had my fair share of bites that looked like Newtobirds's bite. They were always on my forearms and fingers and from a very rotten Carlisle when he was still living with my ex. Now we're best buddies and he is currently snoozing down the front of my shirt. Boy, I don't miss those days. Kayak has bitten me very few times, but when she does its when she wants to go after Carlisle (who is almost always minding his own business). The worst bite I ever had was from my budgie who bit me right on the tip of my nose!!!! I swung my head in reaction and he didn't even come off! He was clamped on hard. His little beak hurts worse than the conures beaks sometimes.

These pics just go to prove that a guy should have his hair cut and not hanging from his bangs down to his lips or all over his face! Clearly that bird was trying to floss with that stray hair and instead go a hold of that guys lips. Sucker! Had too! The bird was simply recommending he get a hair cut! LOL

I don't think this thread tell us something at all.
Of course they bite to protect their self. We don't know how they feel because they never show us that, so when they are having a bad day or feeling threatened they bite.
I don't think that is good for us (and the parrot) to be scared for getting bite all the time, and I never see dog or horse owners have this fear.
I have seen some very hard parrot bite, but I have also seen the owner NOT respect their birds area. I have also seen the owner thinking he has a toy and not a living animal.

@Wenz. Don't take it so hard. And don't take it personal. (I know that is difficult)
The age is not so unusual for that behavior.
My Brown-headed parrot starting this behavior at the same age.
She changes for over the night, and in the morning I was not allowed to change her water. But I take a fight with her, and claim my space and continue chancing her water when she was in the cage.
And yes they bite me for the next couple of days, and yes, it hurts, but I new that I was need to continue this or else I will never be allowed to change her water again. When she bite me i say just, NO, but continue in what I was doing.
I do believe that our parrots need space to, and I never touch them in their cage, but to change their water is something they should handle I think.

I really have not taken it too hard or too personally! We are all at some point going to get a bite from our Birds! Its just one of those things. Normally, you can read an Amazons body language! If they fan their tails and pin their eyes, then you know to steer clear, but Codie did not do this until after the event

My point in starting this thread was for all Members to show pics of any bites that they have sustained from their Birds
