Kiwi the Peach-Faced Lovebird
I was at a local Nature Center doing comunity service, and when we had to leave (We'd been out over 4 hours in the sun showing people how to use binoculars.), I stopped at the adoption booth, where I saw an adorable Fancy Pigeon. He/she looked so sad whenever it was alone.

So I just wanted to know, if I did adopt him/her, would he/she get along with Kiwi, my lovebird? Could they go in the same cage(18x18x57)? Kiwi's rarely bitten anyone, but he/she attacks any technology (Calculator, Remote Control, and most of all, Handheld Console) like he's/she's jealous.
Other than that she's naive. She's healthy and we might get him/her DNA tested.

Whether they get along or not can't be determined until they meet each other.....in any event you don't want to cage two different specie of birds together.....if they ever did decide to cage themselves together, that decision needs to be theirs, not yours.

Even with breeding pairs, putting two birds together that don't know each other can cause problems, at times.

I was expecting an answer like that. The worker at the Nature Center said the pigeon was very dolice and wouldn't attack anything, but if Kiwi tried to attack, the pigeon's size would triumph. Kiwi's only upper hand is that he/she has a hook-shaped bill and is faster, but not by much.

I wouldn't put them in the same cage at all, seeing that they're two entirely different species of birds. And I'm not sure how doves and parrots would interact together, either... Unless they became the best of friends, I would just let the two have their own space.

I totally disagree with the person at the nature center. a pigeon wold be no match for a love bird with their hooked beak. They could do a lot of damage. Also in the confines of a cage their is no escape. They are also on two diiferent diets and the diet for one would not work for the other. In my opinion that is a very bad idea. If you wanted to get the pigeon and set it uo in a large cage in the house or a coup in the yard that would be a different story.:).Just not together

Alright, I wouldn't. Didn't think so either, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks!

lovebirds rarely get along with any other type of birds, unless they make the choice.
Even then they are tempermental with their own kind(I breed them and have pets)

IF you housed them together the pigeon would be attacked and injured quite badly, as lovebirds are highly territorial.

I think it's great you want to give this pigeon a home, but please do it in separate cages.
For the safety of both birds.
