Mango and Munchlax (Peach Faced Lovebirds)
So we had moved Mango into the livingroom with our cockatiels. We left Munch in the bedroom by herself. Reasoning for this was the fact that we suspected having Mango in the same room was a possible trigger for her egg laying (she lays every winter so far we've had her). We had moved him over a month ago when she started laying. While she was on her eggs, it was quiet, they did not seem to care.
They aren't really bonded much, they hang out together but Munch will pick on Mango and they need to be strictly supervised together.
Another reason to move Mango was also Munch's aggression. She sometimes has attacked him out of the cage when she wants something he has. Separate out of cage time is pointless for them in the same room because they will just go to each others' cages and cling to the bars and do nothing else--which puts Mango at risk of injury as Munch loves to grab feet, toes, and legs through the bars. She has busted toes in our flock while doing this before (which is why the tiels do not ever share the same room as Munch any longer!)
My husband recently had a shift change at work and now works the midnights shift. Birds are noisy, he is fine with their daily chatter and squeaks and racket they make with their toys, he can sleep through it and even though Munch starts her racket at the crack of dawn, even I can sleep through it.
However, now that we removed her eggs yesterday, they have decided that flock calling to be the most fun thing ever! Which, it's not fun to us. They woke me up with a migraine this morning and my husband has not been able to fall asleep. So, he moved Mango back into the bedroom. They are being quieter, but I am not too happy with the arrangement as now I worry about the egg laying kicking back up again and I worry now for the risk of injury to Mango.
Out of cage time solutions I can think of are bringing Mango into the livingroom for his out of cage time alone. I'll have to do this in the afternoon when my husband is awake, though. I could put Mango in his travel cage and move him into the livingroom for Munch to have her out of cage time, however again I have to do this in the afternoon.
We also live in an apartment. Though we have never had noise complaints, I always fuss about that. Their constant chatter is sometimes pleasant and has never been an issue, but the flock calling is obnoxious, louder, and rings in our ears (might just be that way because I have a migraine right now and it is amplifying all sound).
It's quieter now that they are moved back, but my concerns now are a different story. I'm still gonna have flock calling problems when they have out of cage time. I can't trust them together because of how aggressive Munch is with other birds.
So, I guess what I am getting at here is:
How do we curb the flock calling?
I guess birds are not the most ideal pets for people who suffer migraines or for those who work midnights!!! lol
