Congo African Grey: Russell Peters (R.I.P. my baby)
Hi all,

I'm hoping you all can offer some advice.
We bought Russell a new cage for his birthday a couple weeks ago and have noticed that since the cage change he seems different.
he used to talk all the time and want scritches all the time but now he seems withdrawn.
he barely talks anymore and doesn't seem to be interested in having his head scratched.
we introduced the new cage slowly and only took the old one away when we noticed he didn't go in it anymore so I brought it back when I noticed his change in behaviour and he doesn't seem to be interested in it.
He just seems to be content sitting up in the corner perch and watching us all.
He does have an appt at the vet next week but I was just wondering if anyone thinks this may be related to the cage change?
I for the life of me can't think of anything that happened recently for him to be so withdrawn.
I'm sad as my little guy doesn't seem happy anymore and I don't know why.
The only reason I am assuming it is the cage as it started happening when the new one showed up.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..... April

April I reckon it's the new cage.
A bird takes a while to settle, especially when his "home" has been changes and is so different.
When giving a bird something new eg a toy ,they may take days to begin to play with it.
Imagine Russell, sitting in this big unfamiliar castle, what is going through his mind.

Try placing a blanket over half of the cage, this will give Russell the feeling of security. Keeping the cage where it was before, will also be beneficial. Looking out, at least Russel will be familiar with his surroundings.
Sure you placed his old toys in the new cage, play with them yourself, hopefully this will encourage him to start moving around.

When I bought Mishka her castle, (cage LoL it's so big) she refused to eat or drink for almost three days.
I sat there, most of the day, showing her, her food and water. I was worried sick !!!
Sitting in the corner, no playing, just sitting there. NOT even saying one word, and believe me Mishka talks nonstop like a chatterbox 24/7.
I offered her her favorite treats, eventually she started responding, and moving around.
Thereafter, she started exploring the cage, it took a few days for her to finally
"move into her new home"
LoL it was the longest home warming party I have ever attended.
In his own time Russell I am sure will settle down in his new cage.
I am offering advise from my own experience, hopefully other members will forward their own experiences, which might perhaps differ.

Keep us posted okay
Cheers for now
