I bought a 5-month old conure from a breeder, and he's very tame and friendly. He is very used to being touched and is not aggressive at all. However, when I play with him, he likes to bite on my finger. It doesn't hurt but sometimes he makes a strong bite. How do I teach him the concept of being gentle? I've read on how to stop conure from biting, but most of them are about aggression and behavioral problem. My conure is not aggressive, it's just that he doesn't understand that sometimes he hurts me.
I've tried holding his beak, pulling his beak from my finger, and giving time-outs, but he still continues to bite at the same pressure. He's very hyper and jumpy and sometimes it's hard to get him to pay attention, so when I pull him away, he just goes right back.
