I have a new male eccy. I've had him for 6 weeks, and bought him really cheap because hes an aviary bird and is a feathrer plucker. Since ive had him hes been to the vet. He has a yeast infection on his skin which is now being treated.

As he was an aviary bird he isnt tame. Ive got him to the stage that he'll sit kn my arm and will let me give him kisses.... but he is TERRIFIED of hands. As soon as I go near him he gets so scared and jumps onto my arm. I tried using a stick to pick him up but that was even worse. He wont take treats from my hands no matter how yummy.

Im not sure what to do... it sounds like there is nothing I can do. It feels like its a time issue and he'll get over it in time as long as I dont push him.

Many birds do not see hands as extensions of our bodies & have wondered if they instead see our fingers as a type of snake, but haven't met anyone who speaks parroteeze yet.....

you're just going to have to be really patient, maybe as much as six months or longer and DON'T chase him around, that just prolongs him eventually becoming acclimated to hands.....

I used Skewers with my Macaw. I would put a little fruit or veggie on the end and every day move my hand up more and more until he was taking it from my fingers .
