I just adopted a parrotlet last weekend and she is tame. She loves to be with me or anyone in my family. She was given up due to her temperament, previous owner said she would go "birdzillia" and attack. I haven't seen this behavior at all from her, unless you count her fingernail biting obsession. One minute she's on my shirt happy and clicking away, the next second she's going after my fingers. No warning just nonstop biting. She steps up fine with out biting. When this behavior starts I put her back on her cage and walk away, she will tweet her little head off or flutter after me, I pick her up and right away after my hands. I know its only been a week but I want to stop this behavior, she has made me bleed by biting through my cuticle. I keep my nails very short, its not just me she goes after its anyone.

Sorry, I can't help you out here. But my quaker has started to show an interest in biting at my wife's fingernails. Not mine but just my wife's. After reading your post I think I'll tell them to stop that behavior. Thanks, and good luck.

My husband's parrotlet (a year-old male) does this, and I've heard of other parrotlets that like to do that behavior, too. I made him a little wicker basket of small toys, scraps of paper, bottle caps, foot toys, toy parts, finger traps, etc. Whenever he has his bird out on/with him, he keeps that basket close, and when the fingernail biting starts, he immediately sticks one of the "distractions" in his face, which redirects his bird and he then starts playing, nibbling on the proffered trinket (which are new and interesting to him since they're not in his cage or in his play areas). He almost always gives up on the fingernails, and, in fact, that behavior has gradually just gone almost away entirely over the past few months. You might try something like that.

ok for the last few days i've met birdzilla. she is crazy mean, attacking faces, ears, eyes out of the blue. she will be fine one min and then attack for no real reason. sometimes it's right off the bat as soon as she gets on my shoulder. she begs to be picked up then attacks right away. she bit through the top of my hand hitting a vein and causing a lot of pain, not to mention lots of blood. i put her back on her cage and walk away, she will either flutter after me or tweet like crazy. i've gotten her lots of different toys and a jungle gym for the top of her cage( she loves it) but she wants to be held. please help me. she was so sweet and loving the first week now she's the bird her former owner needed to rehome

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Sorry. I've never really worked with these little guys.

And lovebirds used to bite the crap outta me too!

I would WAY rather work with an aggressive macaw than an aggressive lovebird. I know how to deal with one. Never had much luck with the other.

she's a Parrotlet and has the attitude of a mac, begs for attention, talks, and loves foot toys, hangs like a monkey. In fact i call her my lil monkey cause she hangs off the collar of my shirt or the hem to go after the big bad pitbull. my major question is am i doing the right thing by putting her back on her cage when she displays bad biting behavior? should i wait longer than just a few min, maybe give her a day off? if i give her a day off from being handled she will have to stay in her cage cause she won't stay on it, she likes to wander
