So I've had jet for just over a week. When he is in his cage he immediately opens his mouth a d hisses at me if I put my hand in his cage. Sometimes playsust go away but sometimes I want him out so I say no. No bite and put my finger for him to step up.

He usually does fairly quickly. Once out he's fine. I made him come out yesterday and he was all over me. He sat on my shoulder and my leg and preened himself. I think he also preened my ear. He clearly wanted me.

The only time I can take him out without drama is when he does his let me out dance. He paces back and forth in front of his door.

He could care less if ace is in there. Ace can even eat his food. No problem. Is it possible he is cage aggressive with just me.

He has toys and he plays. I am allowed to touch his toys.

Ps he has more yellow than I thought. I can't wait til he finishes molting Ace plays with toys too.

Edit for spelling. Also he is partially tamed.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
1. You haven't had this bird that long. Give it time.

2. Sticking you hand in the cage can be seen as "invading the nest." That can be a scarey thing for a little bird.

3. Unless he's signaling that he wants to be picked up, let him come to you. Keep your hand at the door to the cage, and coax him out, with attention or a treat, rather than sticking your hand in the cage and chasing him...

Mark thank you for responding. I see a lot of your posts. Some are funny and some are great advice. I'm going to just open his cage when he is allowed out. It worked well today. you might enjoy my thread Funny Jet.

This post is super helpful because our little Kiwi puts on the same type of song and dance! He's all shy and hissy when he's in the cage but once he's out he's just lovely. Hang in there gracebowen it will get easier! They are totally worth it. We leave Kiwi's door open all day and wait for him to peep or shout when he needs us. He usually comes out every few days but the door is always open so he has the choice and we don't stick out hands in anymore.
