Hi i just re homed a Senegal :rainbow1: he is two years old and at the men's house he was very nice and tamed. He had to give him away because he wasn't gonna be home for a while and wasn't going to spend time with it. Ever since i brought him to my house he has been very scared, shy or aggressive. He has been here for a few days and every time I try to get him to step up he lunges at my hand, bites me or just walks away.(if he walks away i don't force him) He also has been really loud at around like 5 pm that's it. i can feed hi off my hand through the cage sometimes or he lunges and try's to hit my finger and goes crazy. I was just wondering what is should do, and what would be best for the bird. All i want him to do is just to not be as scared and just come outside of the cage. any responses will be very helpful thanks.

Crazy, I am in the exact situation. He doesn't like me too much because I am a girl. He was only handled by a man. He didn't have time for him anymore. What people on here have been telling me is they say to sit with him and read to him. They say clicker training works too. It has helped my sennie a little because I give him attention. Although, he is getting bored with it. But maybe your bird will respond better. Target training, have him touch the stick click the clicker and give him a treat. But maybe just let him settle in more. The members on here have had me realize that I have only had him for a little while. With time he may be ok with me. :) The wonderful people who have been helping me will probably respond to you as well and help you a bit more than I have. :) Good luck! :)

Have a Senegal.....you have to give it space...Senni's adjust a bit slower than other birds in my opinion. They are biters, typical of senni's. and generally a one person bird. If his previous owner was male, going to a female new owner will take some time...even a couple months. I had a rehomed bird take 7 months to finally accept me. It's the grieving period of losing it's mate to going to a new one.

Imagine losing a Boyfriend/girlfriend or Husband/wife...your not going to go out and be ready for a new one in a day or week....may take months right? (hopefully not) but birds are emotional creatures, hawks for instant have the same mate for life. Many birds are the same way.

Rehome birds are the hardest, it takes extra love and care to bring them around again. Some are fine right off the bat, others not so much. Practice patience and let the bird observe on it's own without pressure. My senni is a Terrorist...One day a sweety the next he's the cousin of "JAWS."
