Snuggliness!

Snuggliness. Is it an individual personality trait? A species characteristic? A result of trust and bonding?

I'm just wondering in your experience what contributes most to a bird's level of snuggliness.

Loki loves sleeping in his snuggle hut and often cuddles up to his toys, tucking the strings/chains they hang from under his wings. But when it comes to burrowing in his humans' sweatshirts like I see pictures of, it's not his cup of tea. Now, head scratches, on the other hand, he will take all day long.

Do you consider your birds snuggly? Just curious!

COMING INTO THE WORLD AS A CONURE HELPS...

Generally speaking there are birds that tend to be physically cuddly and affectionate without a whole lot of prompting, and other birds that get that way because they've been worked with a lot...

It's usually a product of the bond you form with the bird. Handle and interact with them a lot, and you usually get this. Leave them to rot in a cage, and you often get bit.

I presently have three that are, and two that aren't...

(Not counting the Fosters or the birds that have passed...)

Kyo LOVES to cuddle. It's pretty much all she wants to do when she is out with me. I keep her snuggle tent out of her cage and play with her with it. She likes to lay on her back and get scratches while preening my fingers (sometimes a bit too rough - she is learning hehe).

Zoe takes snuggles up by several levels!

That's a great photo, Mark!

I have a couple of quakers that were absolutely hands off when I got them (they were both adults and several years old). After lots of work, both birds are friendly and love interaction but aren't really fond of snuggles.

I'm hoping to get Loki here one day as well. Seems like I take two steps forward then one (sometimes 2) backward. Not sure if that's just Loki or my experience.

Also, can we block the Karen's from posting pictures of Zoe? They are giving me parrot envy!

I'm so sorry, Zoe is personally responsible for starting a pandemic of parrot envy! Sadly we cannot block her photos, too many of us are addicted and need a Zoe fix on a regular basis.

My B&G, whom I can literally wrap in a towel after a bath.

Again my youngest son...this time snuggling with Ripley

Every single one of mine loves snuggles. :D Some more than others. :54:

Isn't there a clause in the forum rules and regulations protecting Zoe's right to prolific and criminally addictive pics?

Wendy, I LOVE the pics of your beautiful birds! And I never knew Hunter was an inside the shirt kind of girl!

One thing, though.... hmmmm... seems to me there's a certain someone missing. I think this oversight must be rectified at once!

HAHAHAH!!!

Ooookay. Here's the Sam. Some folks claim it's very difficult to get Amazons into a harness. I'm not gonna say Sam volunteered for it, more or less I volunteered HIM for it. But, voila, here's my hottie in a harness

NOT so snuggly here...

But overall he IS a snuggle bunny. :D

We waived that clause a long time ago... too many addicts complained about not getting their fix...

Pretty sure I was one of them! :D

I've seen large macaws climb inside the shirt before... my greenwing has done that to me... but never a zon! That's a new one on me...

OF COURSE, YOU REALIZE THAT ZONS ARE UNPREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE ALLOWED TO GET THAT CLOSE TO YOUR FACE... ESPECIALLY HOT 3 AMAZONS... LIKE NAPES, FOR INSTANCE... BECAUSE... they... will... bi - -

Nevermind.

:p

And yet, the overall perception of Zons as hormonally challenged out of control beastie birds continues...

Why?!

Could lack of socialization and training have something to do with it?!

Hmmmmm.... I wonder.

Naaaahhh... YOU JUST GOT LUCKY WITH YOURS, THAT'S ALL... THOSE BIRDS ARE ALL HOT TEMPERED AND NASTY!

Wendy, I love love love your pics! The worst bite I ever got was from a nape and it seems every zon since has wanted to eat me, so it's great to see your pics.

Your macs are beautiful too and your boys are very handsome!

Victoria needs to post pics of Kelly. I know she's got some snuggly ones.

......

Thank you so much, Karen! I'm LMAO here because that's "our" Mark in both of the photos. Unshaved in one...semi-shaved in the other. :D

But our oldest is quite fond of the gang, too. :D

....and so is my husband.
