Worrying obsessive behaviour

Hey all,

So I have a 7 year old rainbow lorikeet who has recently started exhibiting strange behaviour after eating. Immediately after finishing her breakfast she sits there bobbing her head around while making this wet chewing noise for HOURS. She's done the same thing in the past but not to this extent.

I've heard from other threads that it's affectionate behaviour and means they love you but this seems excessive. I can't interact with her at all while she's doing it (it's like a trance). She also does it when I'm not around.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this before or have any suggestions?

Thank you
John

Hi John, you are obviously unsure and a little concerned regarding this so I would say go see your AV and have a check up. If it is a while since your bird has had one then probably a good idea anyway. Birds hide illness and we don't really pick up until it has a hold.

Need help with obtaining a good AV then please say and we will be pleased to help.

Hello, and welcome to Parrot Forums!

I definitely second Plumsmum's advice. You should definitely take her in for a checkup with an avian vet. You want to rule out any kind of infection.
