Harry is 16 years and Toon is 15 years.
They are my kids and I have them from the age that they were 5 weeks old.
Harry is disabled. The breeder has dropped him as a chick, making his pelvic was broken. I found out when I had him a week or two. The breeder said I could bring him back and exchange him for another. But that I have not done ..... I allready loved him tooooooo much and could not miss him anymore. I have Harry learn to climb and learned how much he could do, despite that ie actually has only one good leg. He's sooooooooooo sweet. I do have a question about Harry and I hope you can tell me more about this. Sometimes Harry is appatisch. He is then completely silent and self-absorbed. It is as if he is sleeping with his eyes open. He does not responded on my vote even though I stand in front of him. I realy have to touch him to get him back to be allert. He has this already from the beginning. He is completely healthy (also Too and Bob are healthy). They are regularly tested for diseases and also get a regular check of the bird doctor. I am terminally ill and sometimes I have to stay in the hospital for a while........ but then Harry would not eat.
My son Anthony should then call me so I can talk through the phone against Harry. Then he goes eating rightaway.
Do you please have some advice for me about Harry.

First, thank-you for caring for a special needs Parrot!

Since, you are visiting an Avian Vet, I am going to avoid that part of this discussion letting you cover it as part of your next scheduled visit.

With Amazons, its referred to as a State of: 'AmaZone.' Kind of like 'Zoning Out.' Or the 'Lights are all On, but no one is Home.' Or, they are 'Vegging Out.' Think if it as 'Day Dreaming' if you will. Its a restful state and unless you need them, let them enjoy it. Pulling /waking an Amazon from this state could earn you a well deserved bite!

Be well and again, thank-you!

HI Marileen, advice on what point? A computer app called Skype will let you do face to face video with Harry when you can not be with him, and parrots can see TV and computer monitors. And it is free. It works for me when I am in China and my parrot Salty misses me.

But I get the feeling that you need advice on something a lot more serious, like what to do with Harry when you are gone?

Hi Wrench :)
What a good idea!!! I always take my laptop to the hospital, so from now on I go Skype with Harry!!!!!
I never thought of it myself :eek:
I know they can see the images of tv and computer.
Harry,Toon and Bob sometimes watch tv.

And your feeling is quite right.
Harry, Toon and Bob stay with my son Anthony ... ... but I wonder how it will go with Harry??????
Would he hungers himself out????

Very many thanks for your response to my questions.

When you Skype, consider eating. Most Parrots enjoy eating when their family is eating. So your eating and your Parrot has his food in front of him.

HiMarleen. 'Boats is right and I'm sure you notice that the birds like to eat with their 'flock' ( that includes you!). If your Skyping with Harry and eating, and he has some of his favorite foods immediately near him, he might eat with you! Start now while you are home, letting him and the others share meal time, especially the big meal of the day.
Saltys feeding boing is right next to our kitchen table and he always has dinner with us, the meal where everyone is present.

Your concern for your parrots, especially considering a terminal illness, is so heartwarming. Does your son care for the parrots as much as you do? He sounds like a good son.

You're right Wrench....... Harry, Toon and Bob always go eat when we eat.
It is a very good idea of yours, to eat during the Skype with Harry.

Anthony loves them as much as I love my boys!!
He also can not miss them..

When I am no longer here, he wants to work less so he can be more at home for the parrots.
Anthony also stays living here in my apartment, so that's also much better for the parrots. They stay in their own environment.

But I hope I'm be able to enjoy a long time from the parrots, my son and all the other fun and beautiful things. I WON'T GIVE UP!!!!!
