For the last 2 days Molly has been acting a bit worried, keeps nipping at me randomly (which is very unlike her), is way way more vocal than usual and keeps looking around a lot, especially out of the windows. Yesterday, I was really puzzled because nothing was happening outside but today a huge snow storm has come. Is it possible she is worried about the snow and it's causing her to act out a bit? She is only 5 months so I don't think it's hormones starting. Has this happened to any of you, that your bird acts strange when it's snowing?

It could very well be that it is because of the snow storm, birds are sensitive to weather changes.

My cockatiels always want to take a bath when it rains. I don't like giving them baths too often in the winter because of the cold weather. But what are you going to do when they use there water dish for a bath?
I just crank up the heat in the house and indulge them and watch them do the rain dance.
So far as I have seen they have never predicted the weather but I might not be watching closely enough.

There has been several junk science studies that claimed such reaction by birds. When one digs deep into the studies one finds the data at best supports something could be happening, but the numbers do not even come close to covering normal variation in numbers.

The only study that I have found that was based on solid science (data is repeatable and a second study has support the priors) showed a slight increase in eating, but nothing else. Neither group was able to determine just how the birds had made the determination that the weather was changing nor how serious the change was likely to be.

Please remember that Parrots are highly sensitive to our emotions and are more likely responding to our concerns about an impending storm.

Hmmm thanks for the advise. I was not worried about the storm but I was worried about her being worried about the storm lol. Also my son got in trouble that day and I was upset even though he was at school but maybe she could tell I was upset. I wasn't crying or anything but she may have caught on anyways. So if it's true she knew I was upset why would she respond with being extra nippy? Why not be extra nice instead to comfort me? Is me being upset more of an annoyance to her? Interesting stuff here.

There is another snow storm on the way and Molly is acting weird again! Not as nippy but much much louder than usual and seems to be desperate (using her "help me!" Scream) for me if I leave her alone for even a few minutes. She is also randomly pooping in places she usually doesn't...She is potty trained but not today! Poor girl must know the storm is coming.

Hang in there molly, we're right in line to get hit by the same storm. I wonder if that is why my bird chose today to turn her ladder into toothpicks?

She tore up her ladder a great deal as well! Weird... Other than that she made it to bed without any major issue, tomorrow is actually the storm and last time she got very velcrow bird all day and also at the same time bitey. Good luck with your baby John!

Thanks. We're getting hammered with icy snow right now. Will be a miracle if we don't loose power. Good luck to you and everyone else in the tri state area.

So Ollie formally known as Molly, is freaking out about this big storm. Like...Really bad. I think the weather DOES effect birds. He was perfectly fine yesterday and now he's being super needy and nippy (which is sooo not like him). He nonstop screams when I'm more than 5 feet away. Poor little guy must be so worried!

Ditto here in Cleveland. Crazy Yankee weather!

Back in New Mexico, lots of people (including me) believed our parrots anticipated esrthquakes, or at least sensed their occurence when they were too minor for us to notice. The Rb would hang from the top of his cage and scream, and then later on the news, we'd hear there was a quake some distance away.
