Hi everybody

My african grey silently mimicks me when i talk to her. What i mean by this is when i talk to her she opens her mouth and her throat moves and the movements match how long each word i say is. For example, when i say "weeeeee" she will open her mouth and move her throat for the duration of the"weeeeee", but no sound comes out at all. I've had her for 3 months, and she is 7 years old. As far as I know she has never spoke, but she hated her previous owner. She seems to like me and she lets me pet her and train her. Does this mean shes trying to talk? This is my first african grey so i have no idea if this is just a normal thing that greys do, or if shes actually trying to talk. As of right now, she whistles, makes the beep of my microwave, makes the beep of my playstation turning on, and makes a cell phone beep. She also just started making the beep my car makes when i hit the lock button, but she doesnt do this sound very often.

.

Short answer: Yes! Wait until she starts practicing when you are not in the room and becomes silent when you enter.

Right now the main time she makes any whistles or anything is when everybody is in a different room, she will do many different whistles. She will whistle and then wait for me to do the same whistle back to her. If i do a different whistle she will just keep repeating the same whistle until i do it back, its pretty funny!
