About an hour before bed Ollie starts attacking air. It's so weird and also cute. I don't normally wiggle my feet like that...it was just an attempt for him to do it on video and I though it would help. He always runs back to me afterwards and has NEVER bitten me even though his behavior looks aggressive towards the ...umm nothing? I can even continue to pet him and kiss him even though he's puffed up and agressive looking, when I touch him his feathers flatten down. Is he just playing? Does anyone else have a bird who does this? Also Ollie is 10 months and never bit me even once and I've had him 7 months. :orange:

Well, I have to add he hasn't bitten you so far. We all get bitten, some more severely than others, but it's just a matter of time. However, in the video, if it truly captured the behavior you mentioned, I saw nothing of any concern. When our little ones get tired, they can also get a little cranky, just like we do. He seemed to be going after your feet due to their movements rather than performing a random act. We all know that feet are the devil to some birds.

Perhaps it could be taken as an indication that it is bedtime? Sometimes they don't like to miss anything.

My GCC sometimes stretches up and starts licking the air (almost like she's trying to catch dust) but never attacks. That video didn't show anything odd, your fid just didn't appreciate your toes moving.

I also saw nothing out of the ordinary. You provided stimulus, he responded. Sometimes he might provide a stimulus for attention, (attacking air) and you laugh and respond...It's just learned social behavior.

Either way it's normal and fine.

Thanks for the advice. I DID mention in my post that he does it without me moving my feet. In fact I don't usually move them...I was just trying to catch him on video and I though it would help which it did. I definitely do laugh and think it's funny and cute. That's probably part of it and him being tired! Also, I know I'll get bitten one day and I wont be mad. I know parrots bite and I'm not scared to get bitten. I know as some have said that it's not the fault of the parrot but of the human.

Our fids learn behaviors and use them to interact with us. Hahnzel tells me to "shut up" sometimes. It's because I laugh when she says it. She also does it if I wake her up at night. But it's just flock communication.
