Chasing tail

So, my birdie recently found a new way to entertain himself - by chasing his tail. When he manages to catch it, he takes it in his foot a bit, "grooms" it, then he holds it with his beak and even walks around and climbs the cage like that.
The thing is, his tail now looks scruffy since he bends it and over-grooms it. Does anyone else's bird do this?

For a moment there, I had believed that this was one of those side Threads of the activities of RickeyBird!

Seeing that it is not, Yup, friends have a Tiel that did that for a while and then switched to another activity! Welcome to the crazy world of Parrots!
