Please help! I adopted a two-year-old Green Cheek a couple weeks ago. I have been working on training him properly and we have been following Youtube Mandy and Rio. Mandy seems to know a lot about Green Cheeks and she is very easy to follow. I took her to the vet yesterday and had her wings clipped. I thought that I was doing the right thing, however, now she is scare3d of me and will not nip or point train. I am talking to her with a low calm voice but nothing is working. I've read it is common to be upset and the old owner said that she acted scared of him when he clipped her wings. It was over a year ago when her wings were clipped last. The talking and noises have almost stopped. I'm just worried that the bond we have is broken. She is a nipper and aggressive normally.

If the bird was previously flighted, it can be a shock if they suddenly can’t fly. From what I’ve heard, they get timid and are afraid of hands for a little while after the clipping, because they’ve lost their only defense. Why are you clipping this bird’s wings? It’s generally better to leave a bird flighted, unless wing clipping is totally necessary for their safety (like if your windows don’t have screens, you tend to leave the door open, etc.) This should not last long, but please ask yourself why you feel the need to clip at all because birds are much more confident when they can fly, not to mention the health benefits of flight.

It's possible the wing clipping spurred your little one to head into puburty. My vet said sometimes when a traumatic event happens it can make a bird close to the pubescent age head full force into puberty. Getting wings clipped is definitely traumatic. Just a though. Otherwise, I think your bird will get over it, just show her you're not going to abandon her just because she's going through a hard time. Continue to try the routine as per usual as much as you can because routines really do help.
