Hi guys!

My boyfriend and I purchased a rescue Senegal around 7 months ago, and we have been having a lot of behavioral issues that just keep getting worse. We are told that she is 20 years old, and lived all of her life with the same owner until he passed away. The daughter took her and that is when her plucking began due to the depression. That is when the daughter eventually gave up and brought her to the rescue. She was there for one day only before we purchased her.

When we first got her she was a very quiet and shy bird. She still plucked pretty badly on her belly and her tail feather due to her nerves and no being comfortable. After a couple of months she began more comfortable and started to grow a bond with my boyfriend. The plucking started to slow down, for a little.

I would say about 3-4 months in is when she began the constant LOUD screaming. She will scream if she is not very close or on my boyfriend 24. It is very frustrating as he is gone more at work, and I am at home more. She has much more of a bond with him than me and I assume mostly due to the fact as she had a male owner her whole life. She also may have not had the greatest experience with the owner.

She is also still plucking. She will go through phases were she is growing them back her tail and belly are coming in pretty nicely. Then almost overnight they are all gone and she is bare again. We have talked with the rescue and give her medicine in her food and water, along with coconut oil.

We are trying almost everything with her behavior as we really love Meeka, but our patience is just growing thin. We have her eating no seeds, and have even bought her a UV light in case she was lacking vitamin D. Her cage is full of toy and foraging toys, but she really pays most of them no bother.

I have tried just sitting by her cage and talking to her, I try to pet her but she doesn't like it, and we have even tried ignoring her when it gets bad.

We are not sure of what to and really want to do our best with our little Meeka.

As time goes on I feel as though she is not even getting better, but worse. Any tips or advice would be so appreciated!
