I've always defended his grumpy little nips, as he's usually itchy from his feather situation, or frustrated that he can't get to where he wants to go (because of his lack of wings coupled with my inability to understand all his body language yet). The only time he steps up without fail (or lunging) is if he's in the tub after a shower and wants to get out!
Today for the first time, Gerry let me pet him, I mean, I could touch his body without him attacking me, which is some major progress from the mighty lunging one! And the love didn't stop there, he then proceeded to regurgitate for me! So he has officially moved from tolerating me to liking me!
When my partner tries to talk to Gerry or get him to step up, Gerry responds by lunging, growling and attempting to nip! So my partner has been calling him a "git" when this happens. I don't mind calling him a git in private but I really didn't want him to be hearing someone calling him a git...
Fast forward to Dexter landing on Gerry's perch. Obviously Gerry defended his territory with the typical lunge and growl... though this time he polished it off with his first proper word since moving in with us... "GIT!" *sigh*
Hopefully he'll follow up with some of the nicer words he hears EVERYDAY! Fingers crossed...
