Can your bird whistle?

My six year old daughter doesn't know how to whistle so she pretends to do the "come here" and "cat call" whistle with her voice. If you couldn't whistle as a kid you probably remember doing the same thing.

Peanut knows how to whistle perfectly because birds instinctively do that, but she mimics my daughter instead. Maybe it's just me, but I find it hilarious that she stopped whistling and is making pretend whistles instead.

Lincoln knows a bunch of random whistles a long with cat calls. And the whistle we use to call the dogs.

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
Japie has some glorious whistles from his owner-before-the-owner-who-rehomed him with me -- so I've been getting lessons from him!

That man could whistle!
Not just calls but loops, trillers the works.

Not as great as these guys, but getting close:

My friend is teaching me to do the whistle-with/on your fingers,
one of the things I could *not* do as a kid no matter how hard I tried.
We were also whistling on acorn-shells, seashells, blades of grass, doing owlsounds by blowing on our thumbs with cupped hands etc. - no problem, but that lovely piercingly loud and clear one.. no way.
(I got my tongue-position wrong - know that now, still cant do it 9 out of 10 times)

OP: Grinn I love the fact your parrot prefers to to the human fake-whistle instead, SO cute.

I had a female cockatiel that could whistle... I on the other hand, even as an adult, still can't whistle. Obviously, not something she picked up from me! I don't know who she *did* pick it up from..

My dad taught Baby a long, somewhat loud, run-on whistle in the early 2000s....he still does it to this day! He also does the wolf whistle and a few whistles he made up on his own and with his squeaky voice that sounds like whistles! He can combine several given the moment and time!
