Hi guys

Wonder if it happened to you guys, in the mornings my young senegal parrot is usually super excited to be let out. He SCREAMS and clambers around the cage so much until he is let out. I have been ignoring this behaviour and waiting till he as least quieten down before i release him. However recently, i noticed even though he's been up for over an hour, he would hold in his morning poop until he is let out (i have not potty trained him).

Anyone with the same issue?

I havenā€™t had that but mother birds donā€™t poop in the nest box and many birds donā€™t like to poop on favorite humans or in certain places. I would start the habit of letting him out to poop and then putting him back in for 30 minutes or so so that he learns the difference between potty time and play time. It might make him give up and potty, or it might just help the screaming,

Does he poop in his cage at other times? Could it be the cage is too small?

My bird avoids going in her cage but she will. She always goes when I let her out in the morning, but there is always evidence that she has gone overnight as well.

He goes in his cage other times of the days and has pooped in the mornings before. Only recently he started to hold in his morning poop. I just wanted to nip the problem early incase its detrimental to his health. Thanks, i will try this too.

He's just super rambunctious and i attribute his holding in poop behaviour and screaming behaviour to being overly excited at his age, anyone had baby senegals that was like that and that they slowly mellow down when they are older?

Bo reliably poops within five seconds of leaving the cage in the morning. I have tried to teach him that I want to go to his stand to poop throughout the day but I haven't been successful, he seems to prefer the floor. I had to chose a flat without carpets for that reason.

My Bella would do this.
Make one humongous poop when I first let her out in the morning.
I used this as a way to train her to go poop before putting her on my shoulder.
Take her out in the morning, hold her over the trash, tell her "go poop" and praise her after she lets go.

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
I had adopted A CAG years ago and he would wait until he was out of his house in the morning to poop. He'd sit on top of the door and I'd see him squat and I swear I could hear him grunt lol and the BIGGEST poop I ever saw I could actually hear it go SPLAT on the papers...had to be the size of a half dollar lmao.
