Hello people :) First of all, I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I used my vacation, so I'm back now. My parrot acts strange. He is usually a silent bird and its very rare when he tweet. He is also silent bird now, but when he is climbed to highest point on the cage,he starts to play with bells. After a while, he starts to tweet, about five times. Can somebody tell me what that means ? Is that means that he is bored, sad or happy ? I'm trying to figure it out. :( Thanks in advance :)

PS. I give him every day fresh food ( carrot, apple, orange, seeds... ), fresh water and his cage is 24/7 open, so that means he can go out when he wants. I also spend about hour or two with him.

Max, my Alex does the same thing...or did, he hasn't done it for quite awhile. I really don't know what causes it, but it seems relatively harmless. Scared me to death the first time he did it. He "get's tall" when he does it, but as I said he's stopped now.

I don't think it's anything to worry about it especially if there isn't any other odd behavior.

Thanks for the information :) I don't see him complaining. He climb to highest stand, play with bells, and starting to tweet. Newer saw it, but I hope he is expressing something good :)

RIP Charlie, Green Cheek Conure,
Lelu, parrotlet and
Poe the budgie.
My conure, Charlie selects a surrogate "enemy" in his cage (usually something with a bell) that he will puff up at, scream and chortle at, charge and generally get his anger issues out on. One bell that he's selected for this I will see him attacking one minute and then holding with his beak while he scratches his own head with his foot the next. I don't know why, but I think they just sometimes play fight with things. As long as its a bird safe toy and you are checking it to see that its not damaged (so that he doesn't hurt himself), he sounds like he's just doing what comes naturally to some birds!

Do you think he is calling you? My Alexandrine, Gandalf, calls me when he is awake and ready for play time, his calls sound like a loud laser gun, Bew, Bew, Bew! That means "I wanna go to my play stand now!"

I do rarely hear him do a softer mumbly tweet, like Printer Bird mentioned above, when he is playing with his toys or swinging from his ropes, I thought it was like birdy laughter that he's having a good time =D

I was surprised to hear that ya'll have generally quiet Alexandrines, from my experience with Gandalf, I assumed they were a noisy breed!
