- 1 Senegal Parrot (Cassie) and 4 Parkeets (Tia, Fidget, Tibbin, and Skyler)
Sometimes in life an animal picks a person to love and to give so much happiness to even when things aren't so great. When I first saw Sugar I was only meaning to get dog food and had no intentions of buying a parakeet (I already had 4) but I always love looking at the babies in Petco. That was about 5 years ago. When I went up to see the parakeets in the big glass enclosure, all of them ran away from me except one and that was Sugar. I put my hand up to the glass, and not only did he not run away, he tried to nibble my fingers through the glass and followed my hand. I always felt that he chose me instead of me choosing him. That was the moment I knew he had to come home with me.
Since then he has been the sweetest mostloving little bird that a parakeet can be. He always gave me kisses and was always so sweet. This morning he left me so unexpectedly. He was his normal sweet self yesturday without any indication something was wrong. He played, he was eating and drinking, and when I put him to bed, he eagerly jumped on my finger to give a kiss goodnight. But this morning about 6:30 am I heard one parakeet start squaking. I got up to to check on them and they seemed fine. The sun was just starting to come up so I thought it was just Jay Jay because he likes to sqwak/scold for the fun of it. But by 10 am I noticed Sugar was lying very still on the bottom of his cage and he wasn't standing on his feet. I picked him up and he was a little cold. I knew I didn't have much time to be with him and much too late for any help from a vet. He past away in my hands in the sunshine outside about 20 minutes later. I have 5 other parakeets and they seem okay today. It was so hard holding Sugar and having to say goodbye. I'm dumbfounded what happened to him.
Goodbye my sweet boy. You'll always be in my heart. Tucker, Tibbers, and Jay Jay will miss you too.
