3 Budgies- Whimsy, Owl, & Waker
1 Rosie Bourke Parakeet- Birkenstock (Birkie)
Owl died because of me. He was my little goofball Budgie. He was the clown of the group and my precautions to keep my dog out of the room weren't good enough. Earlier this week she was able to squeeze through the gate and past me in the doorway and grab him and take him under the computer desk within seconds. I pulled he out and held Owl while he died within seconds...</3

I posted the whole story under "other pets" about my dog and am crying too much to tell it again. I miss Owl so much.

So sorry to hear about Owl
This is one of those unfortunate accidents that can happen when having birds and dogs.
Do not blame yourself

It's not your fault. Please don't blame yourself. Dogs are VERY fast and accidents can happen to anyone.

All kinds of accidents do, in fact happen. Birdcage doors are accidentally left open and other pets kill the birds. Some parrots fly out of homes and get lost. People are sometimes severely exhausted and happen to fall asleep while their parrots are out playing and accidentally crush them.

A couple of times, during feedings, our GCC Trixie has bitten us hard enough to make us pull our hand back, just so that she can squeeze past us through the food dish door and climb out of her cage. She's pulled this trick a couple of times when my yorkie and cat were out and it's just plain luck that they didn't kill her. Now it pretty much takes two people working simultaneously to safely change her food and water several times a day.

Just know in your heart that Owl was such a blessed little guy to be so loved by you in the time that he was here on this earth. For any being (human included), we can only do our very best and love them while they are part of our lives. I truly believe that when our time comes they will be waiting for us at Rainbow Bridge.
(((hugs)))

I know this is very very hard for you. Wishing you had known or done better to protect your bird.
The only thing you can take from this unfortunate accident is what you might do differently next time.
No matter how anal we are with our birds to protect them accidents do happen.
Accepting what has happened, learn from it, and move on.....maybe there is another budgie just waiting for you to open your heart to and share your life with again, but only when you are ready.
there are many posts on this forum " I wish I had done this...." including my own posts.

I am sorry for your loss of little Owl. I know how easy it is to go through your mind on what you could do differently but sadly accidents happen and you had no way of knowing this event would happen. The only thing you can do is look at the tragic event and think on what to do to keep it from happening again. :(

feathersanddrums--i am SO sorry about the loss of your bird. Even though it's not your fault, i do understand the guilt. So many of us have dogs and birds and there is always some level of risk, particularly with the small birds.
I just wanted to say i'm so sorry for your loss and that i hope you can go easy on yourself with the guilt.
