- From little to big - currently 6 Linnies; 2 Budgies; 1 BHP; 2 CAGs; 2 Zons; 1 GWM. Formerly in the flock: 1 LSC2 [fostered/rehomed] RIP: 1 budgie 1 WCP & 1 sweet Pan Am
So, when I committed to parrots, the 1st two I chose were budgies, yes, as starter birds - but only in the sense that they were to be the 1st two birds in my home.
I intended to have them from fledging on, for the rest of their life. I picked two - sex unknown because their ceres had not changed color, yet - and allowed their personalities to name them. The yellow-faced blue turned out to be a sweet boy who loved attention. He is Little Bird Blue, and his hatchmate, the yellow/green female, named herself The Evil Dragon Queen, or Dragon for short.
The two together were a riot and kept me on my toes. While the Linnies technically arrived at my house first [courtesy of already being in a double-wide flight cage I had purchased off craigslist for Blue & Dragon], it really was Blue & Dragon who welcomed the other parrots to their new home. They deviled Beaker, our first 'big' parrot - a White Capped Pionus. In truth, Beaker liked Dragon much better than he liked Blue, but he tried not to admit liking either of them.
Beaker crossed the rainbow bridge several years ago and I hope he is showing Dragon around and taking care of her while she waits to welcome Blue and the rest of her flock across the bridge, just like she welcomed them here.
Despite her name, she had her sweet moments and was a lively, lovely companion. Everyone hears me talk about many of the other flock members and I really wanted to pay tribute to this little girl who helped me learn to love living with parrots. [And who explained in no uncertain terms that little in size does not mean little in personality.]
