My beloved friend passed away earlier this week, I'm so heart broken that I lost her. She was so dear to my heart and I can't believe she is gone. I don't want to re explain what happened, it's so hard to type out. So here is the text I sent to my mom.

"Rosie died last night. I had just been holding her, and she danced stepped up and was happy. Then I put her back and went to use the restroom. I came back, said hi to Kenji and gave him a treat. Then went to give Rosie a treat and couldn't find her on the perches. She was laying on the floor of her cage not moving and breathing hard. I took her out and she had no strength, Leo held her and blew into her mouth and she stated making some pained honking noise with each breath. Got her in kenji's crate and we went to the car to bring her to the animal er, but every ER we called didn't see parrots. Rosie was getting worse, her eyes were half open and she couldn't hold her head. I just opened the crate and gave her scritches to try comforting her. It only took about 12 minutes from when I saw her to when she passed away. I held and pet her and cried and cried in my car until she started to get stiff and I didn't want to hold her when she got like that. I couldn't sleep, and had tears all night, and they're still here now. I love Rosie so much."

It was terrible to watch her die right in front of me, and not being able to do anything. But I wouldn't have changed that for anything, because I would hate to just find her dead. Knowing that I did my best to comfort her as she died is something k would never take back. I was there, when she was most scared. She knew even in her last moments that she was loved. I miss her al very much. I know though, that there was nothing I could do to save her :( I'm pretty sure she had a stroke, as she was always at risk for strokes or heart attacks because of her thick blood. And her leg caused her pain so she is free of that.

One day I would like to buy a galah from a breeder, and give it the best life possible. Poor Rosie was abused and neglected, and only got to spend 5 years with me, and those 5 years were as good as they could be. She got healthy again, was flying, had a huge cage with toys that she learned to have fun with. She ate a excellent diet.

Many people loved Rosie, all around the world, and now she is with us all in our hearts.

I'm so so sorry! Just know in your heart you gave her the best you could and loved her more than anyone else ever could for the time you had her. She is flying free now with all the other birdies over the rainbow bridge.

I am so terribly sorry Ashley :( That comes as a shock to read. We all have our allotted time here on earth, and it was her time to fly free forever. You did everything right. Take good care.

Thankyou so much everyone, it's still hard every time I see her cage. I can't put it away yet. I even have her food and water still in it. Its amazing to have all the other parronts who know the same love that I had for her and know what it's like to loose someone so precious.

I'm trying really hard to hold back tears right now, and not really succeeding. I stay out of the bereavements sub forum as I find it hard going at the best of times and something I just don't like to think about too much, but of all the posts I didn't want to see...

I don't know if I would have taken on my galah had I not spent so much time reading the threads about Rosie. They did a wonderful job in informing me as to the challenges and the rewards of taking in an older bird. I have a lot to thank you and Rosie for, and I'm heartbroken that it turned out to be such a short time you had with her. I can't imagine losing Alice and I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I'm so sorry.

The only positive thing I can think to say is at least Rosie got to spend the last years of her life loved and cared for in the way that she deserved, and she must have loved you a great deal for the life you gave her.

Ashley, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Rosie. I too, am sitting here with tears rolling down my face. It was clear in each and every post that you made about Rosie (or Kenji) just how much you really loved them and how much you cared for them. You are a wonderful parront, and Rosie would have been comforted in knowing that you were there with her when she passed.

She is now flying free over the rainbow bridge and is free from pain. RIP Rosie, you were a wonderful and cherished birdie who is now flying high and free.

I am so sorry, Ashley. Your rescue and rehabilitation of Rosie was so kind, established the deepest of bonds, and heightens her heartbreaking loss. I hope the joyful times together help you grieve.

This is so sad I dont even have the words. I know that nothing any of us say can take away the pain right now. Just know that I am thinking of you.

Bye Rosie, thank you for filling your mommy's life with so much love. Rest in peace.

I found this poem, I thought it could say it better than I could, so sorry for your loss.

"I'll lend you, for a little while, a bird of mine," He said.
"For you to love while she lives, and mourn when she is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or maybe twenty-three,
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, as all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this bird to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love - not think this labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call, to take her back again.
I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, thy will be done.'
For all the joy this bird shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shower her with tenderness and love while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.
And should the angels call for her much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand."
If, by your love, you've managed, my wishes to achieve,
In memory of her you've loved; be thankful; do not grieve.
Cherish every moment of your feathered charge.
She filled your home with songs of joy the time she was alive.
Let not her passing take from you those memories to enjoy.
"I will lend to you, a Bird", God said, and teach you all you have to do.
And when I call her back to heaven, you will know she loved you too.

Ashley, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I know what it's like to have your bonded fid pass away in your arms and, painful as it was to watch, to be certain that you would do the same all over again.

As you said, she knew that she was loved. Not only in the moment of her passing, but throughout the 5 years that she was blessed to have with you as well. You gave her a beautiful life, showed her what it means to be loved by her parront. And for that, you were as much a gift to her as she was to you.

You are both in my thoughts and my prayers.
