She just went from me

I feel so terrible about it. I killed my bird by accident. I purchased medicine for my cockatiel and I force fed the medicine, I put the syringe into her mouth in to deep and she choked on the water and passed away right in front of me. What pains me the most is that it was my own stupidity that costed her life. Although I had not completely bonded with her, she and I became closer and closer, and then next thing I know is I ended that, MYSELF. I named my cockatiel,"The little one". It feels so painful, just losing her like that, and it what makes it more painful was that it was ME who did it. I feel so ashamed and depressed, these words do not bring justice to my depression right now.

Re: She just went from me

I'm so sorry for your loss. You should always ask a vet to show you how to administer medication if you are not already experienced. But it was an accident and they happen....

I moved your thread to the "Bereavement" section.

I am truly so sorry for your loss.

Forgive me for pointing this out during your current hardship, but I must stress that nobody should ever medicate their bird with OTC medicines unless directed by an Avian vet. Yes, it's entirely possible to aspirate a bird with only the slightest amount of fluids entering the air sacs.

I realized this only moments after the the horrific accident. I should have played it safe and taken her to the vet.

I'm very sorry your well intended efforts ended with a loss.

Life is a perpetual learning experience, and the loss of a pet is one of the deepest hurts. Perhaps your post will save another life.
