Hi All. I haven't want to come on here because my poor Jenday (Jenna) passed away. They said he had a blood clot in his lungs and passed from old age (22). I thought Jendays lived longer than that. I am heartbroken and so is his mate. I have 2 other conures, a sun and green cheek. We all miss Jenna so much. The Jenday was the best of all of my birds. Well behaved and pretty calm. The other two are young and very active and need so much constant stimulation. My Jenna just like to hang out. Will be so sadly missed.

I am so sorry for your loss of such a special bird :(. It hurts so much I do know. As far as life span, you can look at humans or really any animal. Natural lifespan varies greatly even with healthy indiviuduals. This is unfortunately the worst part about having pets :(, but the love and joy they bring us throughout the years is so worth it.

I know, sometimes the older ones just have a "better" personality, as they have learned so much over the years, vs the young ones who are essentially children and still learning life's lessons and being hyper lol. Take care...

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I'm very sorry for your loss of Jenna. Your special bond makes the loss that much harder, particularly as it may have been premature.

Thank you all!! Jenna was such a special bird in that he helped so many people get through different times in their lives. My mom had cancer 3 times and Jenna spent morning, noon and all night with mom. He slept with mom every night. She slept in a recliner because of her condition and Jenna slept in her shirt every night.
My daughter inherited Jenna when mom passed and Jenna turned out to be the best thing mom left to us. He really helped me get through my grieving.
My husband has been battling cancer for the last year and has been very sick but Jenna was always right there to comfort me every single day. He would lay on my shoulder against the side of my face and rub his head on me with the little nerf, nerf, nerf sound. I will miss him forever but so glad that I got a chance for him to touch my heart. These birds are more human like than most people know. People say, "it was only a bird" but to us he was a great companion.

My Jenday went with me through a very rough patch in my life too. When he passed it was very hard to take.

Do you know what happened?

I'm sorry to hear of Jenna's passing. Those who say "it was only a bird" have never shared their lives with one. I don't say "owned one", because I don't actually believe we ever "own" a bird or animal except, perhaps, in the legal sense. I have 16 rescues in my home, and I don't own them, but rather choose to share my home and life with them.

They are every bit as much part of the family as a human relative, and deserve the same respect. The difference is that they are, for the most part, defenseless, and need our care and love to survive. I consider it a privilege to do so, and feel it deeply when I lose one.

I share your grief, as do so many here who have gone through this. I've gone through a difficult time the past couple of years, having lost several of my furred and feathered life mates. I've shed a great deal of tears recently.

You gave Jenna a loving home, and filled her life with joy. Every day she was with you, she shared in your love and happiness. Take heart knowing her days were happy ones, and her life was as good as it could possibly have been.

Take care, my friend, and shower your remaining flock with love and kindness.

mh434 thank you so much for sharing the beautiful way we think of our birds. How many do yo have? Some day I will get another Jenday but it will have to be a male and it will have to be an older bird. They young ones are hard to keep up with.
Blessings!!

Dj, we are down to 7 birds now, having lost 5 over the past few months to old age, birth defects (supposedly), and mystery causes. I took those losses hard, and they were compounded by the loss of my once-in-a-lifetime dog, my best friend (traffic accident), and several other friends. My dad's brother died a few days ago, as well. I've been immersed in grief over the past year, and these days, I dread answering the phone.

My love for our feathered friends is, literally, what keeps me going. They sense our moods well, and always seem to be close and supportive when we need it most.

Each of them is different, but each is wonderful in its own way, too. I can't imagine my life without birds now!

All the best!

mh434 I too have had many losses lately and even my dog is very sick with cancer, heart congestion and seizure. They came on all at once. He is my very best friend.

I am so sorry for all of your losses and I myself cannot think of being without my feathered kids.

I pray that your remaining kids last a good long time.
