I accidentally killed my green cheek conure

I am left with unspeakable amount of guilt and sadness as I tell of his passing. I left him by the window as per usual, because he hated being stuck in his cage for too long, and he enjoyed staring outside and listening to the wild birds chirping. I left him there and I took a nap. When I woke up, I found him underneath me - crushed. His body was still warm, but he died within minutes. He must've flew down to my bed which is next to the window, and cuddled up next to me. When I woke up and moved to the side, that's when he must've been killed. I am thinking of a proper way to give him a burial he deserves. I am completely wrapped with guilt, and I'm quite speechless. He was a 10 week old green cheek conure; born mid-February. He was a healthy, affectionate, and happy little bird. He was unfortunate in that he met a stupid and careless person as I am.

He deserved so much more. I will never forget him despite the short amount of time that I had him. For anyone who is reading this... I hope that you don't make the same mistake that I do.

Oh my gosh!!! I am so very sorry! Many hugs to you! Please, PLEASE don't riddle yourself with guilt. This was an accident, and accidents can and will happen. :( You could have had no way of knowing Sabo was going to hop into the bed with you.

MORE HUGS!!!!

Rest easy, Sabo! You were much loved and will never be forgotten.

Unfortunately, they have a habit of climbing into bed with you.

Py always slept in my bedroom. And I ended up putting a happy hut on the nightstand next to my bed, because he had a habit of sneaking into bed with me, and falling asleep inside my shirt.

Once he was asleep, I'd take him out and put him in his little hut next to my bed. It's just something they do. Fortunately I am a light sleeper...

This, unfortunately, happens with conures.

I am so very sorry this happened. I know the pain and loss is terrible, please try not to heap guilt on top of the heartbreak, it will only make the healing process slower and even more painful. Sometimes we don't see a potential accident until it's too late. Hugs to you and healing thoughts.

I know this must be beyond difficult for you, thank you for sharing the heartfelt warning.

So sorry to hear this sad story:(. It sure doesn't take long to form a strong emotional attachment to these little guys. Thoughts and prayers are with you. And remember, accidents can happen to anyone. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Fids love to cuddle and sleep with you. I find that GCCs are very sweet and affectionate. Make it a habit to always put your birds in a safe place (like a cage or aviary) if you are not watching them.

I rescue, foster, and rehabilitate as many parrots as I can take in.
My heart hurts and my eyes sting for you. That is a terrible story. It was not your fault, though. You must not beat yourself up.

Give Sabo a wonderful funeral. I am so very sorry for your loss.
