On Mother's Day 2015 my 22 year old yellow nape amazon passed away from a stroke.we spent five days at the vet and a load of money(all worth it) and our little guy just couldn't do it..he came to us in July 2013 the man that owned him kept him outside, never really socialized with him,he suffered a head injury and they never took him to the vet..resulting in no left eye.this man had him for 12 years.before that he was in a loving home with kids who played with him and everyone gave him love that was for 9years. By the time I got doolie his spirit was broken and he didn't trust.it didn't take him long to trust us and let us touch him. He talked all the time and laughed and omg.he had to eat everything you were eating...off your plate. And he was never in his cage ,he just walked around the house asking what are u doing.
I'm having a really hard time with his passing..thanx for reading

I'm so sorry for your loss, Maria. I know you're struggling, it's so very hard. Being a mom to Doolie was a beautiful thing to do for him. Deepest condolences and hugs to you.

Fly Free, Doolie, you will be remembered.

So sorry for your loss. Doolie sounds like such a special friend.

You showed Doolie that the world is a kind place even after he met an unkind man and he was so loved by you. [emoji179]. Big hugs to you. Be kind to yourself and try to focus on your happy times.

So sorry Doolie has passed. You earned his trust and gave him such a wonderful home. Too many of us know the gnawing feeling of loss that will ease with time, though we keep the memories forever in our hearts.

It's been two weeks since doolie had his stroke and had to be rushed to the e.r.. It's my day off, my new bird sucks. I'm listening to music I would have listened to with doolie. I'm trying to be productive, but I'm doing more crying than anything. My heart hurts bad. I guess only time can tell how long this feeling will last. Have I mentioned my new bird sucks? Lol. I'm trying to sing skinny love by Ben over to her..it's not working, she doesn't like music, she doesn't like anything yet. I want my doolie back. :( sorry just had to vent.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I understand forming a bond with another bird can be difficult. Please keep in mind though, she is ANOTHER bird. She is going to be different from Doolie and that's okay, because those differences are what make every bird unique and special. Its good to miss friends that left an impression on our hearts and souls, but you'll be setting your new relationship up for failure if you have certain expectations. Then if she doesn't meet those expectations, you may subconsciously feel that she's not as good as Doolie and lacking (which isn't true, she's just different). Please keep us posted. I'm sure Doolie would be happy knowing that another bird in need is getting a chance with a loving family.

IMHO you are very early in the grieving process, one without finite boundaries. Rescuing the Severe Macaw in a compromised situation was a noble gesture, one that will both help and complicate working through your loss. While no companion could or should ever replace Doolie, I hope you will love the Macaw based on its unique qualities.

Others have posted tips on remembrances, FWIW one of my ways to memorialize pets is to use their name letters in the various passwords necessary in our tech society.

Please allow yourself to find comfort with your new companion.

Thank you I have decided today that, even though I will grieve as long as it takes and cry until I can't anymore..this new little girl..well I think it's a girl..deserves all my love and attention..hell I didn't like doolie when I first brought him home..I thought what am I doing with a parrot that bites...so I know there is hope for this macaw in my life..she's starting to like me and that makes me happy!

Today is a bad day...Dollie would have been with us two years and he would have been 22 years old. I'm fighting back the tears, and trying to swallow this lump in my throat. I'm trying to keep it together becuz I work both jobs today.
I miss him sooooo much, it hurts.
Thanks for reading
I love u Dollie

I'm so sorry Maria, I could not imagine :(. Stay strong and do your best to keep occupied at work. It hurts terribly I know. Too bad you have to work both jobs today, but it might be better than if you were only at home feeling the pain without distraction.

I understand your pain, but from where Dollie was to where you brought him was a godsend for the both of you. You took a broken creature and gave him purpose and that spark of life, love!
