I just rescued 2 birds last week. A BB parrot named Ollie and a gorgeous cockatiel name is Simone. Last night was a terrible long night as I watched my cockatiel die almost suddenly. He was fine before I left the house, I stepped out to go to Petco and running errands I was gone maybe 2 hours and when I returned home Simone was cooped up in the corner of the cage at the bottom. He could barely walk and very lethargic I don't know what could have caused this Olly however is as happy as can be. I rushed him to an emergency vet 45 minutes from home he literally died 2 minutes before I walk through the doors. I sang to him the whole ride there I comforted him as much as I could it was heartbreaking because I was already attached. They said it could have been the transition from the rescue to my home, Simone was 5 years old I never thought I could hurt this much from the loss of a bird that I only knew for a week, but in that short time Simone had my heart. My son who is 4 years old is extremely sad as well as he grew very close to Simone these past 7 days. It is very difficult to explain to him why and answer all his questions what a difficult situation for us. I wondered if maybe he was exposed to some type of toxin but then I thought if that were the case then Ollie would be sick as well. A sad day in my home today. Fly free Simone rest in peace.
