I hafta make a post for Bart, as Ive made one for the rest.

Bart was my GCC. My first parrot. I got Bart when I was 21 and he was my best buddy. My introduction to the amazing world of conures. He was my side kick and loved to be with me... he even loved car rides on my shoulder ( windows up of course). He was my silly lil guy.

Bart loved everyone, even people who dont like animals, he would fall asleep in their hands and melt their hearts. Bart changed my fiancee's, Mark, mind on birds, too. Now Mark has a Sun who he loves to death.

I could go on and on about how great Bart was and how much I loved and still do love him. He was there for me, when no one else was.
It'll be two years 9/24 he passed away and I have tears rolling down my face as I type.

Some days are rough and I still miss him very much. He was with me for 6 years but he taught me about much love, loyalty, companionship and patience. Bart ingested something that gave him stomach ulcers. I took Bart to the vet, as I was leaving, I put my hand in the incubator to gives him pets. He snuggled down in to my hand and began to have a seizure. The vet pushed me out of the way and gave him CPR. With difficulty I left him there for treatment. An hour later, as I was pulling in to my yard, the vet called to tell me he had passed. I parked and fell out of my truck crying hysterically. I'll forever feel guilty because I feel I could have prevented it and prevented Bart's suffering. I know when the 2nd anniversary comes up, it'll be a difficult day.

Because of Bart, other parrots have homes and a flock.

A side note I'd like to add...because its kind of... interesting.

The address of Bart's vet is 1785. When we were looking for a Sun Conure, we found a breeder in PA who had baby Suns. One sun conure's band # was 1785. We went to visit and fell in love with #1785...aka Muninn, Mark's best buddy.

The numerology...the combination of those four numbers...what are the odds? ;)

Oooh Sooze ...I feel sooo bad for you right now...I actually cried reading your post. Of course I'm listening to iron and wine..upward over the mountain. It's so hard to lose a loved one. My doolie a YNA passed away on Mother's Day this year. I have posted soooo many times during my rough days.my doolie died of a stroke..a result from a really really bad life before I got him, he also passed at the vet...alone. If we could only go back in time..right? Much love Sooze and Bart ..I'll light a candle for him tonight.
Btw Bart was beautiful

So sad. I'm sorry. I know how anniversaries can be!

I think of these pets as "Ambassador" pets. They so beautifully represent their kind to us and build that bridge so that many others of their kind reap the benefits later. They are special beyond their time they have with us.

I had an "ambassador" bird, Percy, who was a little budgie. He was one of the most special animals I have ever known. My heart broke when I lost him and I always miss him, but it is because of him that my other birds came into my life.
(My ambassador Chihuahua was Pablo. I not only have 3 other chis now but my friend adopted 3 of them....all because we fell in love with Pablo.)

I know that's just a 'side story' but I wanted to say I understand the value one single little life can have and how much it can change the lives of others.

Deepest Condolences for your loss of sweet Bart. Thank you for sharing his story and photos, he was a darling little guy. It's hard to describe how deeply you feel the loss of a close companion, you miss them in a million ways. I'm glad you had the chance to share your life with such a special friend. Hugs to you, Sooze.

I love the term 'ambassador animal,' that's very fitting and so touching to those of us who have had the honor of knowing one or more.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Bart was a wonderful companion, and his spirit lives on; that is the gift from these amazing parrots.

Anniversaries are so difficult, but I hope in time the sweetness of his memory eases the pain of grief.

I am truly sorry for your loss and pain. It sounds as though Bart had a very meaningful life, a purpose, if you will. I also love the term "ambassador animal". I've known one or two myself. Stay strong.

What a precious and wonderful bird Bart was, I feel so strongly for you as I just lost my GCC. I hope that we can both heal and appreciate our birds for the amazing and wonderful companions that they were.

Thank you for your kind words everyone!
This Thursday, the 24th will be two years...it'll be a hard week. Strange how such a little creature can have made such an impact, isnt it?
People think...'its just a bird....'
But they have no idea!

I just now read your most beautiful tribute about Bart. I, too, am sitting here weeping.

Your unconditional love shines through! :smile015:
