Sprout

Ever since I was a little girl, probably grade school aged, I have always wanted a bird as a pet. I spent most of my high school and college years dreaming of the day I could finally get a parrot.

About a year ago when I was 23, I started getting serious about looking for one to adopt because I was done with my undergraduate degree and going to be living in a place where I could have pets. One day, I found a post made by someone trying to find someone to adopt their beautiful male GCC. I instantly fell in love and had to have the bird. He moved in with me, and I named him Sprout. Sprout was a little nippy at first, but he warmed up to me and we bonded really well.

We spent a wonderful year together, until yesterday when a sudden illness took him from me. I made a post in the health forums trying to figure out what happened to my beautiful little baby. He was less than 3 years old.

I will miss him so much. I'm experiencing such horrible grief over the loss of my parrot. I can barely sit in this room where his cage would sit without expecting to see him crunching on his food and squeaking up a storm or flying over to sit on my head. I haven't done anything but cry for the last 24 hours. Rest in peace my precious, dear baby bird.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your little Sprout. Many times losing a beloved animal family member feels like no less than losing a human friend. It's a hard time right now, but in time you will smile with beautiful memories.

Thank you, Julie, he was definitely a dear and special friend, worth just as much as any human friend and he left me with so so so many wonderful memories of my very first parrot.
