Goodbye Mishka

Today I said goodbye to one of my fur babies.....Mishka was 11.5 years old and was the sweetest girl.....over the last few years her health had severely declined- full blown cataracts so she went blind....she had fatty tumors and most likely diabetes. She was also to the point where she was becoming lethargic and would snap at anyone who dared to move her.

This was a decision that took me quite a while to make and wasn't done without the consult of my vet, who had been seeing her since she was a puppy.

Her brother, Apollo, had a rough evening when he realized his sissy wasn't coming back... they've been together all of their lives.

My heart is broken, but it wouldn't have been fair to her to keep her living with a terrible quality of life....I miss her so much already...

In remembrance of her, my mom is going to plant a fruit tree on her grave since we buried her on the family farm...

Oh, Shirre. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Your love for Mishka shone in every word you wrote about her, and now taking this step to allow her to rest in peace is yet another expression of that love.

I know it was a hard decision, and my heart goes out to you in your grief. But she had a good life with you and Apollo, and you can take heart in that. God bless you and yours in this difficult time, Shirre.

Deepest condolences, Shirre. Mishka was a valued family member for her entire life, she was fortunate in so many ways. Your loving tribute and photo essay is very touching to see. I know she will be missed by family and friends for many years to come. I'm glad Mishka's lifetime companion, Apollo is there along with all the happy memories to comfort you.

Goodbye, Mishka. I freely admit that I say this to everyone I meet who is experiencing a loss. It was in a sympathy card when my Mother passed, and it stuck with me. The message was... "May the pain of losing her soon be outweighed by the joy of having had her in your life." May it be so.
