I lost my sweet parakeet Jay Jay tonight. He was 11 or 12 years old and I've had him since he was a baby. About a month ago he showed signs of a tumor and lost function of one of his legs. Because he was still eating, drinking, chirping and flying happily I did my best to make him as comfortable as possible. Yesterday I noticed signs of him getting weaker and tonight as I was holding him on my chest to give him warmth, he fluttered his wings and passed quietly. I'd like to think it was then that he flew to heaven.
He was always such a tame sweet parakeet, always happy to sit on my finger and fly around the room. He was also so easy going and was quite spoiled. He was always out and only had to go into a cage at night. I will miss him so much and so will his buddy Tibbers who wanted to be near him in his final days.
