Hey everyone,
My buddy, Coco, died last night after 22 years of being together. He was next to me in my bed when just let off a gasp of air and sounded like relief. He was very healthy and always liked to fly around the apartment. Maybe he was holding on for a while and figured it was time to go beside me. Now that he's gone, I wish I spent more time with him as I grew up.

Cherish your Quakers and every minute with them, and share the moments. Maybe the happiest you've had with them?

So sorry to hear about your loss. It's never an easy thing to go through. I do think that you should keep in mind, at 22 years your quaker out-lived their average life-span. That means clearly, you were giving him a good long life. And it sounds like he was able to go out on his terms, with the human he loved. I think that's an amazing gift in itself. How lucky we would all be to get to go when we are ready with the comfort of the person we love most with us.

I know that doesn't change the sorrow and pain of losing him. But I thought a little silver lining might help. Again though, I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. 22 years is a long time so I can't imagine how painful that loss must now feel. You obviously cared for coco so much, and as sad as it is it's quite touching that he was able to pass softly next to you which must have felt so comfortable for him.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Yes I do believe he lived a long and happy life. It makes me feel better that there are other people that can feel the love we bring to our winged loved ones

Thank you for sharing, and giving us a focus to pause and consider our good fortunes and beloved birds. 22 years! For a Quaker! That's inspirational. My darling is 32... back when I got him, the age expectation was 30, but some authorities have increased that to 35-40. Who knows? But I'll tell you this: my goal is to outlive him and be with him as he passes peacefully, and YOU DID THAT for Coco!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!

Every moment with them is magical. Forever isn't long enough. I am sorry Coco had to leave you, but what a wonderful relationship you share. Like Gail said above, he had a long, great life with you, and had the best passing he could ask for, peaceful in the arms of his very best friend.

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
I joke around a lot. If you lived in the same house as the Rickeydevil, you would see why I have to blow some steam off. lol But I will say that I have never seen a relationship more touching or intense than my lady and her devil. Bird. Her BIRD! Being on this site I have gained a lot of respect for that and I thank you all most humbly and sincerely.

I just read this post :( I am so sorry to hear of CoCo's passing. I too have recently (1.5 yrs ago...seems like last month) lost my beloved Smokey.
Even though it kills inside, try to smile, knowing that your Quaker felt he would rather pass, being with his beloved human, then being found at the bottom of his house.
Again,my heart goes out to you, with my deepest condolences and sympathy.
