Suddenly lost my best friend today Rowdy. Never knew a GCC could be so loving. My heart is completely broken feeling like I lost a child! Rest in peace my "little buddy"!

I am so sorry that you had to join us under such horrible circumstances! I am really, really sorry for your loss! These little guys really are our lives!
I must add, I quite often have dreams or nightmares, involving something happening to JoJo. And even though I know it is only a dream, it takes me days to get over it! So I do understand how you are feeling!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
My deepest condolences for your loss of Rowdy. They are so much larger than life, and their passing leaves us mournful beyond belief.

Thank you all for the kind words. I never knew that this would be as hard as it is!!

When we got Rowdy he could not even perch on my finger and would always just slowly fall over. The first time that happened and he laid on my chest I was done!! He was always dancing and wanted to be around me and my wife. He was a very special bird and will always be in our hearts. Everywhere I look I am reminded of him. I just hope he did not have any pain and that he knows that he was loved. I do have one question though..... Right now I cannot imagine getting another bird because I am afraid of the attachment and cannot stand the thoughts of having to go through this again. Do you ever get over this? Thank you all!!

My experience has been a mourning period followed by a glow of wonderful memories. As difficult as loss can be, it is IMO far overshadowed by the joy of their generally long lives.

Don't even ponder the notion of getting another bird while you are mourning. And yes, the period after losing a beloved companion is difficult with no defined timeline. Eventually you will likely remember Rowdy more with love than sadness. That you bonded so closely with an avian suggests in time you will once again choose a feathered friend. Sometimes the opportunity appears very spontaneously.

I'm so very sorry to read this news! Here you'll find lots of support as you go through the mourning, its hardest at first. I can't say it ever goes away but I can say it becomes something you adjust to.

I am up early working. Saying a quiet prayer for you and for your beloved Rowdy. Like it was said above, they are larger than life, as is your Rowdy. A love bigger than we would have even thought could occur. You will be OK and we are all here to make sure you are. I will keep thinking of you. All those wonderful moments you and Rowdy had .... they must be way too many to count. Keep sharing!!

For a while it can seem like the pain will last forever. When Oliver died, we didn't move his cage right away and every time we looked at it, it was a reminder that he was gone. When I cut up a red pepper, and looked at the cap with seedy core thinking how Oliver would have been begging for it, would go UMMM and pin his eyes, and burst into tears. They get so entwined in your daily life that everything you do brings back the sting of loss. Going out of the house for a vacation helped, staying busy helped, many things helped but in the end it is only time that moderates the pain. You never stop missing them, but eventually the pain recedes enough to allow good memories to stay around longer. It has been almost a year, and we still think of him, and feel his absence. It will take as long as it takes for you. Others might say it's only a bird, you should get over it already, but love is love. You loved your parrot, and that love isn't any different from any other kind of love, so just be good to yourself and hang on. It will get better.
