Lost my baby bluey and im still completely heartbroken

Hi everyone

So 2 weeks ago today my lovie bluey passed away, im literally still so upset about it, that anytime i see his pictures or talk about it i just start crying and feeling guilty that it was my fault and i should have done so much more, he passed before his vets appointment and before i could get him to the vets while doing cpr on him, it was literally heartbreaking, i know he is not suffering anymore but he was my baby and i wanted to see him get better and back to his loud squawky destroy everything self.

i have my other lovebird who is way more quiet than usual and now refuses to come out her cage, still calls for him but doesnt physically go looking for him anymore (i still don't have the heart or courage to move his cage). I know shes still mourning but how much time should i give her acting this way before it becomes more "serious straight to the vet situation" i give her, her favourite food, favourite toys, before she wasnt eating or drinking, now she is but i don't know what else i can do to make her feel "happier" and not get stressed or feel alone when i have to go out. As whenever i leave the room more than 1 minute she squawks the house down till i come back.

I still can't talk about it properly as its still very raw and i miss waking up to check he was ok and just seeing him by the heatlamp or scuttling across the floor to his food with his tippy taps.

I thought about getting another parrot as i have 2 cages that are free but i just don't know so im just looking into whatever parrots i see on youtube for their pros and cons, maybe help heal the hole in my heart and give my icey someone to squak at while im out running errands or in the kitchen cooking.


Sorry for the endless babbling and mixing different topics together im just thinking out loud and would rather talk to parrot lovers who just understand

So sorry for your recent loss. We all grieve and mourn our lost loved ones in different ways and crying and getting upset at this point is totally okay. It may be some time before you feel right again. Did you get a necropsy done on your bird to determine why they passed? Getting proper vet care in time is so important, when birds get sick it really can be so quick. I would wait to get another bird until you know for sure what caused the other one to pass to ensure you don't go through the same thing again. Continue to be a comfort to your one lovebird as best you can, they grieve too.

Your other lovebird is suffering a loss, so take care to spend extra time. That she is now eating and drinking is the best of signs.

I would wait a bit before adopting another bird. Some folks find benefit by joining a support group, perhaps your local RSPCA can be of assistance.

I'm sorry your heart aches. I do know the feeling. Your other lovebird is mourning and searching for the lost companion so I would just read her body language and if she wants comfort from you give her all you can but if not, don't stress her by forcing it just maybe keep her area nice and warm while her stress hopefully subsides. I know I would probably give into my anguish and get another bird, I guess it just depends on you.

He had ongoing plucking and self mutilation problems for a few months, then completely stopped for over 2 months everything started growing back, then before he passed he started again even worse biting off clumps of his leg, so the day i booked the bloodtests and cone he passed b4 his appointment
No necropsy

But today as i was deep cleaning my other lovies cage in these cracks where its hard to get to i found these red specs thinking it was dust untill they started moving (like a horror fil) i killed them and it was just full of blood so i quickly googled and turns out they are "blood mites".. so i think thats what was driving bluey to insanity plucking himself..
My mum ended up throwing everything away as i couldn't with tears on the phonr to my husband telling me we will replace everything well over £500 worth of stuff plus all the toys bluey played with all the memories gone, even more heartbreak.

So now i have a booked appoinment with vets to make sure poodgie is ok and mites haven't hurt her or taken to much blood & get the stuff needed to kill them

I mean just more and more stress... what a great birthday this is turning out to be

As for another bird i was only thinking for next year but as of now 2 cages have been thrown out, no perches or toys, il wait till these mites are destroyed and i have enough stuff to go around
