hai all, i'm so lost for words and have been for the last 24 hours my 1.5 year old GCC (Duckie) suddenly passed away. I miss him so damn much, it sucks being on the verge of tears every minute of the day.

Before he had passed, we were doing our usual night time routine, where him and his brother (cage mate, Eden ) come out and fly around the house, I turned for one second and the next thing i knew he was on the floor in some sort of fit or seizure while regurgitating, within 3 minutes he was gone. I was completely and utterly heart broken, screaming bloody murder and crying myself to sleep.

I'm worried for his cage mate though, he's another GCC who we got as a friend and let me tell you they were the best of buds, i'm reconsidering getting another GCC for him but can't bare the though of replacing Duckie. Eden has still been his usual self eating and drinking ect and spending quality time with me.

In tribute of my baby boy, Duckie may you spread your wings and fly high, you were the sunshine to my life even though you started off by biting and lunging at me to becoming the best first bird i could have ever had, you brought so many amazing memories to me and a beautiful GCC and caique to my life. You've taught me so many things, I wish i could of saved you. I love you so much Duck and will miss you for eternity.

R.I.P Duckie.

Oh goodness that's so sad. I am so sorry. Have you no idea what happened? Was he perfectly ok beforehand? Would a visit to the vet be a good idea just to make sure that Eden is ok? They might even have a clue what struck Duckie.

Take care - he knew you loved him. Hugs!

I’m so sorry for your loss!

Did you take him for a necropsy? That can help protect your other bird by finding out what caused it.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Seconding a necropsy, I always get them done even if I'm fairly sure what the cause was. Definitely keep an eye on your other GCC and it would probably be a good idea to take him to the vet as well.

Try not to blame yourself, things happen sometimes.

I am so sorry for your loss:( It sounds like Eden is adjusting so far, I agree about taking him in to be seen by a vet, just to be on the safe side.
My heart goes out to you.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
My deepest condolences for your loss of Duckie. It can be far worse when they pass at a young age - but old enough to have developed loving bonds.

A necropsy may give understanding of what happened, whether congenital issue or illness. While emotionally difficult, it may help protect Eden.

So sorry this happened to Duckie. Let Eden see Duckie so he knows his buddy has passed, it makes a difference. SOunds like he may have flew into a wall or mirror or window. A CAV visit to do an autopsy is a good idea, to rule out medical issue for this.

I made a donation in Duckies name to the Cornell Univ. Vet school, to be used for parrot related studies and programs. Again our sympathies to you and Eden.

Thanks for the support to all.. I did not get the chance to take duck to a vet to see as i'm only 16 and at the time it did not even pop into my mind to take him there, myself and my parents buried him a while later.

Before hand he was fine, he was his usual self, I would as he's a bigger bird as in weight and this time when we got him out he was flying every where.. I'm pretty sure thats what got the better of him, i just keep thinking what if i closed the door to his cage when he was in there maybe i would of saved him or if i stopped him from flying.. i know Duckie was a baby and had such a potential for life, and now he's just gone

We can all find many 'what ifs'. Ease up on yourself, these things happen and many times we never know why. You did your very best and gave him a great life even if sadly it was short. Take your time, be gentle on yourself and in time the pain will ease and eventually you will learn to live with it even if it always remains in some way. You have so much sympathy on here, so many understand exactly how you feel so take care and hold it together for Eden who will also be wondering what has happened.

Thank you so much, its so difficult for people to understand, i swear the almost of people who said "just get over it, its a bird" makes my blood boil i wish they could understand.. I'm thinking for Edens sake I'm going to take him to the vets as well as my caique Indi just to be safe.

I was also thinking of getting Eden another cage mate, oblisouly not yet but when i feel like we are both ready.

I'm just going to miss that bond that I had with Duckie, he was just so unique and quirky, unlike his brother Duckie was reserved and only was out going when he was with me, the first day we got him my family wanted to get rid of him caused he bit, but after the time with him he was just the best.. and still will be

Another precious green cheek gone too soon. Gotta say I’m not sure if it’s any easier to lose a young one than if you’ve had your little mate for a decade or three! Thank heavens for this forum that gives us a place to come together and share our love of these darling bundles of fluff cos so many will say “it was just a bird” - there’s no such thing! Sending you lots of love in your time of such tragic loss.
