10 days ago, on June 4th, 2019, Mochi flew away. It was all due to my carelessness and irresponsibility. It's been 10 days since he flew away and I have accepted the fact that he may never come back to me again.

If someone had caught him and has him with them right now... I hope they will be able to give Mochi a good life...

Goodbye Mochi.

I'm sorry :(
Thankfully the climate there is pretty perfect for a parrot.
I hope you find your bird and I am sorry you are going through this.

Sorry to read this, but please don't give up hope, many lost parrots are found. You have to make the effort to find him thats all. Posters, calls to local vets and pet shops are often ways that lost birds are re-united. I lost a parrot a long time ago, so I can emphasize with how you are feeling.

I'm so sorry.

Did you put his cage outside with some food and water in it? Do you have other birds that you could put outside (in cages) that could call out to entice him back?

What type of bird is Mochi? Did he get spooked by something, or??

Don't give up!

No, we didn't put his cage outside... His parents, siblings, and 5 other budgies (Mochi is a budgie) live outside so they do call and I have been keeping a lookout for him.

The Eid prayer (it was Eid when he flew away) was going on then so I think he was spooked by it... He was also chased away by crows after he flew off.

It was incredibly rainy for the rest of the day when I intended to go around the island to look for him.

I did write a message on Viber that he was lost and told a few friends but we were only contacted once and the bird in question was not Mochi.

This happened 10 days ago...

Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.
Very sorry to hear Mochi flew away. Please consider some of the tools suggested within this thread: http://www.parrotforums.com/lost-found/49129-bring-them-home-tips-locating-lost-bird.html

There is always the possibility Mochi joined a wild flock.

Very sad to hear this. There is a chance of getting the bird back within a day or a max of 48 hours, especially for small birds like Budgies and Tiels. Larger birds may last a longer period.

However sad it may sound, the harsh truth is that there are no wild flocks of Budgerigars anywhere on the Planet. There was one in Florida but it died out. In a small place like Maldives, i highly doubt it.

Do you stay in the capital city island of Male?

There is s remote possibility that they may join a flock of house sparrows (youtube) but that probability is 1 in a million..

I’m very sorry to hear this bad news about Mochi. There’s a chance he may have been picked up by someone else in the meantime, keep spreading the word, I hope you get him back!

There are wild budgies in Australia for sure---flocks.
I know someone who found their budgie after a week (the weather was nice, but it does happen).

Also, here is a 6 week reunion..https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-44951793

I don't live in Male', I live very far away from there (Kulhudhufushi)

We did lose Crippi once. We got him back that very minute because he was recall trained. My brother also lost a Lovebird 2 years ago... we never found him again. And then around the beginning of last year, we lost a budgie. We also never got him back.

There are no house sparrows or any birds like that here right now.

Was Crippi a budgie. a recall trained budgie is news to me. Since budgies are nomadic, they don't have a sense of a "home range" unlike say rosy faced lovebirds, conures etc.

Googled your island- it is a lovely place

Finding a budgie after a week borders on a miracle!! That is really good.

And of course I meant outside Australia. I know about those lovely large flocks of wild, untamed budgies in the outback of Australia but for their own sake i would not wish for any pet budgies (that may carry deadly diseases) to join these flocks. :):greenyellow::greenyellow::greenyellow::greenyellow:
