Last night I got home from work to find out Sunny was having difficulty breathing. Her tail was bobbing up/down and sometimes her beak was open.
Her wings were drooping some and she was having trouble keeping her eyes open. Her stool was watery and not the right color and she was not eating or drinking.

Took her first thing in the AM to my avian vet, didn't even make appointment but I did try calling. I know he did everything he could but there was no saving herm she was to far gone.

First he was going to go for a blood test but in looking for a vein he noticed a lot of bruising around and on back of neck. He decided to try an x-ray.
He got the x-ray but came rushing back to the exam room to tell me she was crashing and he was going to give her oxygen. He came back in about 2 minutes holding my poor Sunny in his hands telling me she did not make it:smile016: .

In this case I really wanted a necropsy but the logistics were against it. I would have had to hand carry her body down to San Bernardino (from Palmdale Lancaster area) and I did not think I could do it. With her on the seat next to me (kept in a cooler to be sure) and tears in my eyes the whole way. Instead I asked my vet to do wat he could to determine cause of death.

After removing the feathers from her body he showed me how she looked. If I didn't know better I would have sworn someone had abused her. She was black/blue all over.

Internally he found that the liver was the cause of death. my Vet said he had never seen anything like it. he has preserved the liver for further annalists and is going to be consulting other avian specialists to try to get to the bottom and root cause if he can.

Fly free Sunny :grey: you were a wonderful family member and a terrific mother to your babies.

Soooo sorry!!!! How terrible. My sympathies to you.
If the liver is sick, they can go into DIC. Theses means they can't clot, and start bleeding out into body tissues. They don't have to have an injury. It's the bodies clotting factor stops working.
Massive liver failure can be from infection, toxins, posions, or nutritional. In the past prepared diets can accidentally come with toxic levels of vitamins added by mistake..
I hope nothing is transferable to your other bird's
I'm sorry you have to go through such a painful loss...

Clotting factor was probably the cause of the bruising that was seen on the skin.

My dear Friend, may these words bring comfort...

Passing of a Feathered Friend
Provided By: Steven (SailBoat), November 2016

“All of us feel such deep sadness when our Parrot friends die, and because they are Animals and not Humans, we are at a loss for words. Often, it is only other Parrot owners who can understand the depth of the loss that we feel with this complex, loyal, and loving creature. Resulting from such a loss, I have placed feelings and emotions into words and found verse to console the loss of my Cleo and since her, other sweet Amazons, in turn; I hope it will speak for all of you.” - Steven

You left this world so quickly. I can hardly comprehend your leaving. Yet there, in my hands, your still body rested – no longer your home. So much I have learned, so much you have taught, your purpose a full measure beyond your size. Comprehensions of your loss still a mist but yet, I know you are whole and happy - now beyond Rainbow Bridge. And so busy you must be upon your green wings, guiding angles to those of us yet to cross. With in my ear, I still hear you, those special sweet sounds of comfort and contentment:

“Do not stand by my grave and weep my friend.
I am not here. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the gentle summer rain.
When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry my friend.
I am not there. I did not die.”

My pray for you my beloved feathered friend:

“May your body nourish this earth.
May your soul find release and contentment.
May you fly high and free upon wings of spirit.
Rest in peace little green one.”

The love and tender warmth of you is a un-full-fill-able void.
I do so much thank-you for creating a space for another, a special place next to yours’.

In remembrance of Cleo, (Estimated) Spring 1959 - May 2003

Dearest Buddy,
I am so sorry. You have one of the hugest hearts here, and I know it is aching, despite your knowledge that you gave Sunny a wonderful, loving, happy place in this world. If we were neighbors, I would be knocking on your front door, armed with hugs and... what? Name it. Chocolate? Tequila? Anything.
Hugzzzszszszszs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry. You did a great and noble thing by allowing your vet to look into things further and conduct research that may help other birds. I know that means little now, but it will make a difference to others.

Thank you and so sorry... :(
