My Little Baby Floyd

This hurts so much.
Two weeks ago I adopted a baby cockatiel from a home on criagslist.
I had made a few posts about how to hand feed as my baby was not completely weaned but I was willing to put in the effort and work through it with him.

A day ago I noticed he was less lively and more fluffed up than usual.
I was going to take him to the vet today, but unfortunately he had passed away in my arms.

I don’t know what caused him to die.
He was eating his formula, flying, singing..
Today it was like a switch completely flip-flopped.
My house does get chilly, but I use a bird safe heater to keep him warm..

He passed away in my arms as I whispered to him and stroked his head feathers.
He only lasted about five minutes before he finally decided he could go.

I am devastated and even hours after the incident I cannot stop crying.
I miss him so much.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. There are so many dangers with having an unweaned baby. People need to stop selling un weaned babies,!!
Formula spoils very quick, feeding has to be at the right temp, babies have to be kept warmer than adults, their crops can be infected with yeast or bacteria overgrowth. It's so difficult for a novice to know if they are feed enough , often
enough. Birds hide being sick, and can go downhills so fast.

This is so horrific that you had to go through this. I am glad you were able to comfort him at the end. I hope your story is a strong warning to all. And that sharing your story saves somes babies.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
My deepest condolences for your loss of Floyd. The passing of a young bird is especially painful, absence of joyful years, unfulfilled companionship.

I know from experience to grieve, let the tears flow. A dear friend shared the following during a time of need:

My heart hurts for you and your little Floyd :02: The passing of ANY pet is heart wrenching, add to it being just a baby makes it almost impossible to comprehend.
