Me and my family really love birds and feel we are ready to own a macaw. We are currently searching for a free or small rehoming fee macaw or conure because we can't pay much for one. If you have a free Macaw or conure or have a small rehoming fee and live in the Los Angeles area or can ship please contact me to fulfill my family's dream...

Thank You!!!

I hope you stick around and be part of our community. However, most of us would never dream of responding to a post like this by surrendering our bird, even if we had need to find a new home for one. Parrots are a HUGE financial responsibility. Especially the large ones who require hours upon hours of shredding and chewing toys, but I have dropped nearly a grand on ONE vet visit on a very small conure. Unfortunately, and I say this as gently as possible, being unable to afford the "full price" of a parrot is a good indicator that you are also unable to afford the proper upkeep of one. I say this with absolutely no judgement, it is simply the truth. There are exceptions, but typically those exceptions are people who have had birds for a long time before the financial hardships hit.

This applies to any kind of pet.

If you can't afford to purchase then you can't afford to own.

I think you got me wrong... I am willing to pay a small fee around 500 but I don't know anybody selling a macaw or conure... The reason why I put free was because then I would spend money on toys and other things like a walk in cage....

Thank You all

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
There is no such thing as a FREE parrot.

Even FREE parrots are quite expensive.

Why am I thinking of the theme song from a bad 1960's TV show about a dolphin?!

Zilla 29 Y.O. Orange Wing Amazon
I was given a "free" Orange Wing Amazon almost 16 months ago. She came to me so ill the vet wasn't sure we could save her. She had Asper in her air sacs, an upper repository infection, her liver and kidneys were shutting down, she had lead poisoning from being in a rusty wrought iron cage, she was on a HORRIBLE diet of only Cockatiel seed, sunflower seeds, and peanuts, with whatever human foods they were eating thrown in for good measure (didn't matter if the food was good for her or not)

I think at one point I had tallied up all the vet bills, medications, detoxing, new cage, toys, and other things for just the first 3 months I had her and it was well over $3000.00 I drained my savings account and maxed out my credit card to save her life. And that doesn't even begin to describe the nights I spent in my recliner next to her cage crying and praying and hoping she would pull through until morning so I could have 1 more day for more meds to have time to work and good foods to have time to help her.

She did pull through, and is a WONDERFUL amazing companion now, completely healthy & happy. I don't regret one single dime spent on her then or now, but my point is...

Free is not FREE, free can mean thousands of $$$, I had no idea what I was in for when I said yes to that phone call, but I had the means, and the will to do whatever it took to give her the chance she needed. And I would do it all again tomorrow.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get a parrot, what I'm saying is if you can't or won't spend the money to get one from a reputable place, what happens if the one you get is ill and needs thousands of $$$ in vet care and medications? It's something all parrot owners have to think about and be as prepared as we can for. Parrots aren't cheap to buy, care for, house or keep healthy. Maybe your best bet would be to get in touch with a rescue and "adopt" one that needs a home, at least coming from a rescue (if it's a reputable one) the bird has been to an avian vet and has been determined to be healthy and ready for adoption.

Not even my Parrotlet was free... And I RESCUED her from a neighbor who poorly took care of her. She told me I had to pay $200 for that poor sick bird. And I did. Nothing is free. But I hope someone can give you one for a reasonable amount. Maybe not on here though... :/

Please reconsider getting a parrot. You asked for someone to pay shipping on a bird they were rehoming for free after stating you'd spend $500. Something tells me you can't afford to provide the bird with the proper size cage, food, and vet bills.
