I've been searching desperately for a Dusky and/or Bronze Wing Pionus for at least 2 years with no luck. Does anyone know of a breeder or better yet one for adoption? I'd rather adopt, but would love a weaned baby as well.

Thank you in advance!

When I got my first Bronze Winged 10 years ago, they were never common, but a bit easier to find than now. There are quite a few breeders in the US who USED TO breed BW, but have since gotten rid of their breeding stock. They seem a little hard to breed, and are not in demand. There is a "cult following" of Bronze Winged Pionus, but they're not popular and sought after in general. I think a lot of breeders were not interested in keeping a bird who is a finicky breeder and also doesn't command a high price. Raven is from Indiana. I love the Duskies too, but the BW is my favorite in terms of looks. Raven is a male, and is pretty crotchety lol.

I wish I could help. I have a BHP and have had Maxis, and I just can't get over how unique thePionus are!

Feather Focus that Dani mentioned above is a very reputable aviary. When I talked to her maybe a year ago, she had sold her original Dusky pairs, and set up her babies to breed. They were about 3 at the time, and seems they were still too young because she wasn't having any luck. I no longer want another Pionus, but they are gorgeous!

Too bad that you aren't near Portland, Oregon. Our local rescue currently has two Bronze Wings and a Blue Head up for adoption. Good luck.

Wow! Thank you for all the responses guys! I am in Southern California. Deb at Feather Focus stopped breeding them awhile ago. I had emailed her about a month ago and she is done with the Duskys :( I did see that add from Florida, but tried a few months back with them and no answer. It's so crazy how Pionus aren't more well known. They really are the perfect parrot. I had one retired BW Breeder explain why they aren't being bred much anymore. It really comes down to the $. When newbies come into a bird store, they want the BIGGEST most COLORFUL, best TALKING parrots. These guys aren't that. The other parrots can demand a higher price. What people don't know unless they've owned one, is that their colors are striking, they are quiet, independent, and the most loyal birds. I adore my WC. I've had him since he was weaned and that was 12 years ago. I eventual want to have every species of Pi that is available. But I'm just dying to own a BW and Dusky.
