Re: OMGOSH you guys won't believe this !!

Oh god.

I *hope* that is a scam posting. 2 look sick to me, and I don't see how the third possibly couldn't be.

Is there a rescue in your area you could contact? Perhaps a CAV who could help with their rescue? Seems to me they will very likely need medical care.

Oh jeeze. The more I look at that the more my heart aches. Are they in a rabbit cage????? Whatever it is, it is FILTHY. I bet the stink is overwhelming.

Re: OMGOSH you guys won't believe this !!

That reeks of a scam posting, decidedly not English as a first language situation, though that is not a definitive clue, it also looks to be couched in a similar manner to many other fraudulent posts just looking to take someone to the cleaners I have seen over the years...hope so anyway, if there is a Boston area ASPCA or something similar it may be worth seeing if they can send someone over to check it out, as the conditions as shown are definitely an animal cruelty situation.

Re: OMGOSH you guys won't believe this !!

I've seen so many parrots posted on Craigslist that are indeed livingike that...

I used to work a pet amnesty day, where people could give up their exotic pets, without judgement ( we judged on the inside though) and without legal.

We just wanted them saved. And I urge anyone who has a parrot they can't care for , who has let things get bad, please give them up. Someone can and wants to help.

The worst case I worked was a Nanday Conure. The couple had gotten a divorce. The husband cheated and in revenge the wife kept the bird. The wife was scared if it and either stuck it in a closet or a back bedroom. She was afraid to even feed it. She had it for a couple of years and wanted to give it up. They don't have to tell us anything, that's what she volunteered, and we can't ask questions....

The bird was a living skeleton, plucjed bald except for head, and self mutilation, with a sever infection. And completely insane.... The Nanday was not expected to live, and euthanized was discussed.. myself and the vet advocated that he deserved a chance, a lot of red tape later I took him home. We had to give him mood altering drugs, antibiotic, special feeding.... But I saved him with the help of the vet. Six months later he was not mutilating, over the infection, normal weight, he let his tail and flight feathers grow back... But legally I had to let him go to the adopor they found. I gave her my contact info and said if it didn't work out I would take the bird back... I never heard from her again and sure hope things worked out I've never forgotten him "Jax" !!!!
Anyway I hope you find your bird, I'm all for saving Craigslist birds, they need us too.

Re: OMGOSH you guys won't believe this !!

We just took in 24 (sort of) craigslist birds(only 2 were listed on craigslist but the same person had the other 22) who turned out to have been total rescues. We are a little over a week in and they are improving greatly. We thought PBFD at first maybe, but vet doesn't think so. Respiratory infections, scruffy feathers, 4 with deformed beaks, poo balls so tight the vet thought 1 had a dead toe(but it looks like she might keep the toe!!! YAY)...

I have a catchphrase these days... "I have a bad habit of scanning the craigslist pet section".

We have taken in many Craigslist rescues. Some good, some bad, some ugly. Not all of them birds, either. Dogs, cats, reptiles, even an elderly hamster(RIP). There are CL animals who need saved, but there are also a lot of scams. Around here there are also a lot of backyard breeders who sell on CL. Sigh. Some days I swear I'm going to stop looking at Craigslist because it is too depressing. But if people who have experience don't take them in, they will go to just another situation like where they came from.

Re: OMGOSH you guys won't believe this !!

I did find Neptune on craigslist from a backyard breeder. I asked a lot of questions, I visited and inspected the set up and parents. She was doing it right, except for wing clipping the babies. He was well socialized, abundance weaned , abd us a great bird..

But because I'm in Florida there were people who were nest robbing, and had bath tubs full of baby birds. Also I think a lot of illegal imports. So yes you have to be careful.

I also scan craigslist, and wish I could save them all, there are always about 20 a week being re-homed of most species. Some just folks that realized parrots are loud messy and know they can't take care of em. A lot of sad ones living in garages to, and people saying the birds just mean and I can't deal with it....
Anyway I think give the CL parrots a rescue , or least think about it if you are looking for a parrot , and feel you can help...most parrots never make it to a parrot rescue....

Re: OMGOSH you guys won't believe this !!

so I posted the craigslist listing on my facebook page mentioning I was searching for an African grey and guess what a friend replied that she has one . So I called her she rehomed a CAG years ago and the adopter contacted her a few months back saying he can't keep the bird he does not trust him with his children that he since has ( he didn't when he got the bird ) and his wife is afraid so the bird is now in a back room Cross your fingers that I get to go see this bird . Worse thing anyone could do is shove them in a secluded room. The guy said he believes he is still tame . The friend who placed him told me he was a character when she had him with a large vocabulary and she had to place him due to time restrain and this adopter was perfect at the time . Well Grey Bird as they call him is now close to 20 years old . CROSS YOU FINGERS !! Yes I will still look at craigslist but I think I am getting better on picking the scams out from the real people looking to place their pets
