So my conure pair spends 90% of their time in the nest box, and are totally silent. They spend almost no time outside besides eating, and occasionally exploring around, they're very skittish and will retreat to the nestbox if startled.
I check the nest box daily, make sure it's clean (which it is) and just get them used to me opening it. Besides their normal flock calls when they come out, I've been hearing some noises going on inside the nestbox, kind of soft screechy noises. Now I remember the noises Berry used to make with her toys, and it's similar to that.
Are conures much more private when it comes to mating? Are there any other signs I should be looking for before I see a possible egg belly? The hen hasn't plucked her belly yet, but she is spending more time in the box than the male, he's usually the one to come out and she stays in, but they are both eating pretty well, I make sure that she's eating too and dust her favorite fruit with a little calcium supplement once or twice a week, and she is nipping a bit at the cuttlebone.
Since they seem to crunch up the pellets to dust and eat while doing so, I've been offering them ground up pellets in a "mush" with some other foods to make sure they're getting enough variety and still getting enough vitamins, in addition to the two fresh food meals served which end up spread over the cage floor with a single bite or two taken out of each piece.
