Hi,

Last month I got a bonded pair of eclectus and during the last week i'm noticing that the female is feeding the male and not vice versa. Is this normal? Till now i'm not seeing the male feeding the female. Do you think that it's wise to open access to the breeding box? Or Should I Wait?

Thanks,
TeT

Sorry for the delayed reply, Etienne.

Have you witnessed any copulation? I'd personally wait with opening the box until you see him climbing on top of her. :)

Best of luck!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Til now nothing. I also placed a wooden blocks on a chain for them to destruct and they left them intact. ... I was thinking of covering the hole to the box with a pic of wood from the inside and leave a small 8mm hole so that they could chew on that to open the hole. What so you think?

Can you possibly post a picture of your entire setup?

'Normally' the males feed the females ( to impress them...to let them know they are 'worthy').

It almost sounds as if your hen is more ready than your male, if you know what I mean. Ekki hens can become QUITE pushy, too, so please make sure she doesn't get overly 'anxious' to mate, because she may actually frighten the male off.
