Hello, I've used this site before. I have a huge delema and any advice or help anything would.be greatly appreciated.

3 Days ago my friend called about horders selling birds. So I Jump skip hop.
I get their, and there's a wore cage more wide and a more taller on top of.that. It was terrible. Long story short. I took the 4 weeks old. Because they are breeders. They had 2 others in their. And if I could of I would of taken them all. But i couldn't.
Soo.
He/She has never been handled. Or even left the mom out.the box because she was already laying on eggs. I also have a 4 month old bird, female. I have her semi tame. So they can't be around each other Quite yet.
How should I set up a comfortable cage for.him has drinking water already out of the dish and seed. He will NOT come to my hand. He got millet eventually after he bit at it.
Im letting him get used to his environment. But at the same time idk.

Please and Thank youi!!!

Hello and welcome!

Please give us a little more information on the birds you adopted. Are they cockatiels? I'm a little confused about the ages of the birds. We'd like to help if we can.

Yes, sorry I was nervous when writing earlier. I have bad anxiety. I forgot! Lol I'll edit it when I figure it out lol

Okay, so my.4 Month old Grey female cockatiel. I've had her about 2-2 1/2 months.
Poo is a 4-5 week old male or female. He looks like a orange cheeked. Not too positive yet.

I can upload a pic when i eventually get it in the bigger cage. Like I said, Idk. I've heard something. Different from everyone. Idk how to do his cage. Normal or specially done.
I'm no newbie to tiels, I've never bred or had this young of a bird.

Thank you! That's very helpful.

Your baby tiel at four to five weeks will still need two hand feedings a day for the next couple of weeks. One feeding in the morning and one in the evening. Do you have a commercial formula for him?

It's very tricky to feed baby birds, I'll wait for those with more experience to help with the formula feedings.

You should also offer lots of fresh veggies and a little fruit, shredded carrots and kale, bell pepper, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, cooked sweet potato, sprouts, apple, the list is long. It would be ideal if you could use a scale and weigh your baby daily for the next couple of weeks to make sure he's steadily gaining rather than losing weight.

Here are a couple of great links to help you get started.

This link has a long list of safe chop ingredients.

It's important to keep everything around your little one as clean as possible. You can use a regular cage, just put the perches close to the bottom until the little guy learns to navigate well. White paper towels are nice on the bottom of a baby cage, you can keep an eye on the poop to make sure it stays healthy. You can also use soft smooth cloth on the bottom of the cage, nothing with a texture to catch tiny nails.

I hope this helps. Feel free to keep asking questions. Please keep us updated! We'd love to see pics of both your birds.

I wouldn't take away the food. He needs all the food he can get and a fresh supply of water at all times.

Do you need help with formula feedings? I'm sure we can find someone with the right answers. :)

Healthy baby birds are usually hungry, that will work in your favor. Poo should be big enough at four weeks to eat from a spoon, you can bend one and tilt the tip so he can feed himself, that's much safer than a syringe.

Most pet stores carry at least a couple of commercial formulas, if they have one specifically for cockatiels, I would choose that one. The container should have easy to follow instructions and amounts per feeding according to the bird's age.

I'm not an expert on hand feeding if anyone has better advice please feel free to share your knowledge from personal experience.

Get formula set up the cage. And then start the training of the both of.them. But poo is younger. I'm hoping she will love me :( lol
