I feel like I'm always starting a new thread for baby pics, so I think I'll just use this one from now on.

First up, a few pics of Jackie and Sniper's current clutch. They are not split pied. If they are also not split whiteface, then I have "True Normal Greys" which is actually really exciting :)

look at the little faces! I love that 'distressed, moldy feather' look. I find it oddly cute xD

2nd clutch

Hot off my phone camera.

Larger chick hatched on the 20th. Smaller chick hatched just this morning.

SilverSage, do you know why the smaller chick has so little down? The other chick was hatched with much more um.. feathering.

We lost one egg. The egg we lost was by far the largest of the 5 eggs laid. The egg got cracked and the chick inside was not fully developed.
I am guessing the shell was thinner because of it's size and was broken by accident.

Two eggs left.

It appears to just be a new hatch. It takes a few hours to get the full fluffy effect :) I see your smaller chick has red eyes; what color are the parents?

The hen is a cinnamon, maybe cinnamon pearl. The father is a whiteface with possible pearl markings (white spots in the grey on his back).
First clutch I did get one lutino. IF (big if) I have the genetics figured it must have come from the fathers side and that would make any lutino automatically a female.

Lution is sex linked.
cinnamon is sex linked.
whiteface is sex linked.
female's can't have a recessive sex linked gene.
Lutino must be from father as a recessive.
sex linked genes are passed down to opposite sex.
So my hen can only pass down cinnamon to a male.
Trying to work this out gives me a headache.

Almost.

Females can't be SPLIT to a sex linked gene; recessive and sex linked are two different terms. Recessive means you need two copies to be visual and gender doesn't play into it.

Whiteface is recessive not sex linked, so females can be split to it.

Females carry only one copy of sex linked genes, and pass it down to sons, males carry two copies and passed them down to both sexes.

So in order to get a visual daughter the father needs to be visual or split. In order to get a visual son, both parents have to carry the gene.

The pearl gene is a pretty easy one to detect in females. Does she have little spots over her whole body?

Avian genetics is a fun and VERY CONFUSING subject, but once you get a few of the basics down the rest (mostly) just snaps into place.

As a fun side note, apparently I type AVIAN VET in all caps often enough that whoever I type "AVIAN" it autocorrects all caps and I have to go back and change it [emoji23]

And Texsize, congratulations on your hatchlings! So tiny and delicate! Please keep those pics coming!

I took the liberty of looking up a few of your old posts; if the hen in question is Sunny, she is not pearl :) I'll link a pic of my pearl hen for you :) this is Glorie on the left, Dominant Silver Pearl, and Honi on the right, Dominant Silver Whiteface Ino (currently on her first clutch!)

Amazing shot of the four hatchlings, Texsize!

And Dani, his crest does have something rather regal going on. I don't blame you for loving it!
